Air in water line - how to access tank/hose?

Hi all, I recently purchased a 1993 Lance 300 and am getting acquainted with it. It seems that air is entering our water line somewhere as the faucets are very sputtery. The pump runs fine, I've checked the pump for tight seals, and I suspect it might be the line from the fresh tank to the pump that is allowing air in. But I cannot find a way to access the lower half of the hose where it connects to the tank; it seems to be behind permanent walls with no access panels. Am I out of luck for checking the tank-to-pump hose on a 1993 Lance 300? Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks much, Josh

  • UPDATE: Turns out it was our inline Shurflo filter that had developed a hairline crack. Interesting to learn that that slight of an issue can create such a problem. Thanks for your helps!
  • Does anyone know a way to gain access to where the tank-to-pump hose exits the freshwater tank on my 1993 Lance 300 truck camper? It seems locked away behind permanent walls. I like to check it for leaks. Thanks.
  • We do, and I believe it's in the correct position but the instructions are not very clear. We have three valves under the bathroom sink - the top and bottom ones are parallel with the pipe (which I'm assuming means open), and the valve in between is perpendicular to the pipe, which I'm assuming means closed. I believe this is what the instructions say for non-winterized mode.
  • Do you have a winterizing valve? Is it fully in the "tank" position and not drawing air from the winterizing hose?
  • Interesting I just fixed a small leak on the connector from fresh water to the water pump. Took a bit to find it since it wasn't leaking much and only when the pump was running. Easy fix but took some time to find...
  • If you can't see water leaking anywhere, keep in mind that the pump itself could be causing that. The type of diaphragm they have in the pump head can get a split or tear, or it could just have some debris inside of the pump that is keeping the check-valves from closing fully. Take the pump head apart and see how it looks.

    :):)
  • Have you checked to see if there is crud in the line thats causing reduced/blocked flow? My trailer did something very similar and it ended up being a screen filter in the reservoir line after the pump causing it to sputter

loosen up the screen cap on your sink faucet and turn the water on to see if there is any difference in flow

or another way to do it is get a bucket and unhook the line under the sink and turn the pump on to see what kind of flow its getting
  • I'd say the latter. Very intermittent flow, sometimes none at all, sometimes just a spit now and then, sometimes constant but not at all smooth like with the city water hooked up.
  • sputtering like pulsing water out or actual air gurgling out with the water?
