I don't know what I was doing wrong at first, but my trailer coupling wore off some of the chrome from the ball very early on. We were total newbies to TT's and didn't understand the sequence down for locking and unlocking the coupler. I just put some lithium lube into the coupler and ball and haven't worried much since.
I'm at about 4,500 total miles since getting mine.
I recently re-checked the Andersen instructions/videos regarding the red liner wear. It is designed so some comes out the top. They do warranty that assembly and will replace it if it is too much (which I think is over 3/8").
