Here are a couple pics, I'm thinking the wear has more to do with the trailer hitch then the ball.
This is wear from my ball catch. The pic doesn't show it but there is a flat spot in the middle of the wear spot.

The top of the ball has some pitting as well. Also take note of the metal shavings on top of the black propane tank cover.

So is this usual or not? I have towed a lot and not seen this much ball wear or flat spots after 2500 miles.
