No problem keeping to speed limit. My truck gobbles fuel over 62 on hwy and 55 on rural roads. No hurry, I just like smooth sailing.
Thanks to all who have advised me. It was very helpful.
40 Miles are not much to avoid all Baltimore & DC.
DC traffic is pretty light these days with less workers on the road. - 1775ExplorerAs many have said, Key Bridge is the way to go taking you right around Baltimore and back to 95. It is fast, and does not add much to the trip. We do this every time we need to go south and have not yet been caught up in any traffic.

40 Miles are not much to avoid all Baltimore & DC. - jnharleyExplorerIf you go to Emporia, VA to pick up I-95, beware. Emporia and US 58 are known speed trap areas. Best to drive the speed limit when using the US58 route.
- weathershakExplorerDepending on where you are heading, I would suggest heading south thru Delaware on Rt 1 to Rt 13 south which will take you all the way south to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel, then take Rt 64 east to Rt 58 to Emporia and pick up Rt 95 south from there. It may add some miles,(approx 40) but you will have a nicer ride. Many nice stops along the way.
- MR_MACExplorerCBBT is the one you can go through and just turn off the tank(s). Baltimore is another story. I don't know of anyone that has been stopped...but it is heavily posted!
At Baltimore they will stop you, as I was. Told them my tank was empty, they sent me around with a warning. - Take the Key bridge..... Or avoid it all together and take 95s into DE.. 896s to 301s.. Take 301/50 cross the Bay Bridge ... Keep looking for 301s at that point.. Take it down to 95s... About 15 miles north of Richmond VA..
- camper19709ExplorerTake 95 into Delaware and exit onto 896 south toward Middletown. 896 becomes 301 as it goes around Middletown. Follow 301 to rt50 and cross the Bay Bridge toward Annapolis. Pick up 95 on the other side of the Bay Bridge. Bypass Baltimore all together. Great roads, less congestion.

Man that is right past my hood.(45 minutes from Centreville but an hour from every thing else. When we go with our baltimore buddys we just add 2 hours to the travel time) Isn't it longer? Many stop lights on 301.Correct no tolls going south Hold on coming back Maryland raised all of their bridge tolls.
Take 95 to del. 896 south then connect with 13 south to rte 50. Over the bay bridge past annapolis to i95 again just before the alexandria potomac bridge. Great road and no tolls - D___MExplorerThe toll takers will shunt you off onto city streets down by the water front. Very little direction to recover and not to nice of a neighborhood. If you enter the tunnel form the side without the toll booth, and the MSP is lurking, you will get a ticket. And to make sure you appreciate it, it will be an appearance ticket. You can't mail it in. You have to come back to court.
When I have to go north, I go over the Key bridge on I-695. Yes it is a toll, but its a bit shorter less congested route.
