Why do dog owners assume we all love their dogs as much as they do? I have a dog but I dont just let him jump on people figuring they love it too....
I mentioned in another post that years ago a guy pulled out an ak47 and fired at my friends for some reason. Nobody was hit but the guy did go to jail. That was desert camping not a campground.
I guess it is the same reason that people think we love their children and grandchildren as much as they do and then excuse their terrible behavior as cute. - bigwheelsturninExplorernever altercation..but this place we're at now..2nd day we were here...i saw the man across punt kick a little dog like a football..
i yelled over to him.."hey..you'd better know..I'm reporting you now"..so on..
you have to have name & address to report but the owners here didn't wanna give it until my husband got on the phone.
animal control came..took dog..sheriff came..asked me if I'd testify in court.."yes"..
next morning..they were packed..gone.
owners of this place had the nerve to tell me..i had embarrassed them..HA!
least..one saved pooch - RoyBExplorer IIIWe was driving the truck around a couple of camp sites in VA near SKYLINE DRIVE checking out things for future camp sites and was getting way in the back of this one and sort got into dead-end road. So here I am backing and going forward trying to get turned around. There was three or four 4WD trucks blocking the road and several guys sitting around the camp fire.
They are all watching me trying to get turned around with taking out my mirrors and truck antennas.
I finally got turned around and was heading back the way I came in and one dude spouts out why didn't you ask one of us to move our trucks haha...
I held my tongue and kept on going...
another time I had made reservations at Loft Mtn up on SKYLINE DRIVE and the day before we was leaving to get there I get this call from the RANGERS saying someone was in my site and they couldn't find anyone around to tell them to leave.
They offered another site which I looked up with SAT VIEW online and it didn't have the shade we was looking for. So I called back and told them to get me my site I reserved...
We left for LOFT MTN the next morning and arrived and wasn't anyone at the check-in station so just drove on down where the camp site was. I met the RANGER walking back up to the check-in building. He said you must be the BRADDYs haha... Told me they had a little trouble but the site is all yours now.
We went on in and setup and found ourselves between two family groups and found out the middle guy was the son of the camper to the right of us. I never got any details but after getting setup I saw the family to the right and sort of mentioned someone had hijacked my site and the Rangers had to remove them. Little did I know it was his son... Turns out the son refused to move and the RANGERS called in the local sheriff dept to remove him haha...
So here we are now sitting between two family groups that had the middle family member evicted by the law. He actually spent the night in jail. They were all drinking it seems...
I just knew this wasn't going to work out good for us haha...
As it turned out all went well and both family's on each side of us left the next day which was their normal time to leave. I figured my tires were definitely going to slashed haha... we was there for the full week and got to visit with the ranger later on. He told me he was glad they broke the bunch up... They was a sore eye to lots of other campers that previous week. The guy that was in my reserved site never checked-in or anything just showed up and took over the camp site...

Wish we could make that happen !!
I'm all for "Natural Selection" and helping it along! - knshookExplorerWe have never had an altercation but we we did have an overly friendly "neighbor" who loved to talk, and talk he did....for hours on end. It was impossible to sit outside without his company. We figured he was lonely so we tried to accommodate his need to chat, but after several days of listening to his entire life story told in intricate detail we kindly told him we needed to have some privacy. Can't remember exactly how my DH addressed him but by that afternoon he was talking up a new camper.
- crickeydogExplorerIn all our years of traveling, camping, and RV'ing, we've never really had any sort of altercation to speak of with other campers. I have however, on occassion, put on a spectacularly poor demonstration of backing our 5'er into an RV site, thus providing free entertainment for all those watching.
Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:) - Swedish_SteelExplorerOther than one epic domestic dispute, nothing to report. I have to add that we were spectators to the domestic dispute, not participants.
In that event things deteriorated to the point where the "she" went into their large truck camper, locked the door, and began ejecting all manner of possessions owned by the "he" via the emergency escape hatch located in the roof of the cab over. Show lasted about 40 minutes. Never knew a truck camper had that much storage capacity.
Yes, liquor was involved. - donandmaxExplorer

Wish we could make that happen !! - TucsonJimExplorer IIWe set up camp in a national forest south of Flagstaff AZ one afternoon. My DW's mom and I were sitting in the shade and just enjoying the peace and quiet. A bullet hit between my legs as a shot rang out from the next camp over. Within seconds, an second bullet/shot! I yelled at the top of my lungs to "CEASE FIRE"! I sprinted the 100 yards into the next camp ready to take them on. (I was well armed myself in case it turned ugly). When I got there, there were two young boys with .22 rifles target practicing. I asked their mom and dad what in the hell were they thinking? No backstop and shooting into our camp.
Their response was.. "Sorry, we checked earlier and there was nobody there". I mentioned to them that they may have had a clue when I pulled my TV and 30 FW right by them on the road. Their next response floored me. They said, "we just had a gun safety class, so we know what we're doing". I explained to them very calmly that "if one more bullet comes through our camp, I will take it as an act of aggression, and I will respond to it with deadly force. The parent's finally told the boys to put the rifles away. They packed up camp and left. - fla-gypsyExplorerSeveral vagrants were camping in a remote NF CG that I decided to just ride through with the wife one day to take a look at when a van pulled in and blocked the exit road after I passed their site and was unloading supplies (large quantities of beer). I waited patiently for several minutes after they finished unloading and then they huddled up and were talking and looking in my direction like they had some mischief on their mind. I calmly took both of my .38 specials out and made sure they saw them and laid them on the dash. They decided to let me pass and moved the van.
