Or on here. LOL - michigansandzilExplorerAside from hearing couples argue or yell at their kids it's mostly dog stories that I remember. Not sure why people let their dogs run off leash. That's great if your dog is friendly enough to run off leash, but if he runs onto my site especially when my kids are outside without an adult, my friendly dogs will not play nice with him. They do not accept strangers willingly without my invitation (unless you're a very smart meter-reader and travel with dog treats in hand;)). Please keep your dogs leashed.
When we were visiting Mammoth Cave in Kentucky I did have one person screaming when she saw my dog. I have a well behaved, leashed rottweiler that I was walking down the road. He was next to my 3 year old daughter. This woman's little yapper dogs were off leash and ran off of her site and she was terrified that my dog would eat her dogs. I've never heard anyone scream like that from the sight of my dog that's calmly walking down the road. Well lady, you did let your small dogs come barking and aggressively charge my dog.......who happened to be next to my daughter that he protects at all costs. No way would he have let those little yappers come near her. As it turned out, my rottie was calm, cool and collected and didn't pay those annoying dogs any notice which made the yappy dog owner look like a fool. In fact her husband came out an apologized for her behavior (while he pet my rottie). Hopefully she will keep her dogs on her own site from now on.
Several years ago we were tent camping and I woke up to 2 labs trying to get into my tent. They shoved their heads right into the tent flaps acting like the lived there. They were running around off leash all morning bothering everyone. Nice dogs, but I couldn't believe someone had the gall to let them run around like that.
Not an altercation but a funny story. Last summer I left our site to go walk the dog. About 5 sites down, he left a load. I did the right thing and scooped it in a baggy. No trash cans were nearby and I knew I wanted to walk further, so I walked back to my site and without stopping, I gently tossed the poop bag near my camper. Then I turned around and continued on in the direction I had originally been going.
From an onlooker's perspective, I had just tossed a bag of poo onto someone else's site! It was a super busy campground and I did overhear several people commenting, "Wow, did you just see that? Someone tossed a poop bag onto another person's site." Let them think what they want, I gave them a story to tell over the fire that night. ;) - BurbManExplorer III

I put in a kill switch for my daytime running light just for that very reason
Sorry no one told you after 16 years that on GM trucks of that vintage, you just apply the parking break one click and it kills the day time running lights. Not enough to engage the parking break but the dash indicator light will go out indicating the day time running lights are off. Hans
My Suburban has a "dome override" switch on the dash that turns off all the inside dome lights when the door is open.
If you press it on/off 4 times in a row it disables the automatic headlights and the DRLs until the next ignition cycle. Check your owner's manual. Allows you to use just parking lights or be completely dark...I prefer to have the parking lights on at night so I can see the dash gauges. - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorer

Man, you guys camp in some really wild places. Guns, wild dogs, drunks, fights, screaming kids. LOL
I've been doing this in state and private CG's for over 20 years and never once saw an "altercation" unless you consider some Dad yelling at his unruly kids to settle them down. Maybe I just mind my own business too much, or maybe I am just too laid back, but I only see people having fun.
X2. Gesus, where the hell do some of you people camp? I have RV'ed for over 40 years and have never seen anything remotely close to what some of you have described! I think "some of you" are just looking for a confrontation. I have several friends like that. Never did get that? :h
Anyway, when I'm on vacation, I'm on vacation. The last thing I want to do is get into a punching match with somebody or roll around on the ground with another guy; even if I win the fight I don't want to get involved in one while on vacation!
About the only altercation I got into was not very much of an altercation. I was in NM on vacation with my family and we stopped at a Taco Bell to eat. We got out of the pickup and started to walk across the parking lot and I heard a HEY, HEY, HEY YOU!! We stopped and looked and there were two Native Americans coming our way. A BIG guy and one about my size. At this time we noticed both were VERY drunk. The big guy say's I'm "FBI" and points to his hat which confirmed he was indeed "FBI" because it said right on his hat "FBI." He then asks me; "do you know what FBI means? I said, "Aaaaaaaaaaaa no?"
He then said: "FULL BLOODED INDIAN"..............and then proceeded to slap his knees and laugh so hard he almost fell to the ground in his drunken state.
I look at my wife and started to crack up laughing myself. I know, I know, it wasn't that funny but you had to be there. Something about the way he said it made it very funny to me.
I said, that's a good one, now you two take care man, we have to go eat. They both said thank you and we parted ways without throwing punches or rolling around on the ground with each other.
My family still talks about that story to this day. Fun memories! :) - colliehaulerExplorer IIINever seen a real altercation at a camp ground in 26 years, just lucky I guess. Now the boat ramp is a different story.

I'm in the same boat. Altercations seem to magically disappear as I approach. Most of them stop when the offending party enters the shade I create. All of them are over by the time my gravitational pull can be felt.
We rarely use camp grounds so I can't think of any real altercations. I have been annoyed but nothing is worth getting tick off.
I guess I am guilty of allowing my size to have a calming affect on those I deal with. I find most people become very rational as they get closer with their eyes rolling up and then their head tilting back......
Good thing too because at my size I'm not really allowed to hit stupid people. - mich800ExplorerWe have never really had an issue. But, when we are camping we are on vacation or just relaxing. So very easy for me to just walk away and not let something get to me. The drive there can test my patience but the second we pull in it is like the weight of the world has lifted.
- WanderlostNomad IIOther than a couple of mildly annoying instances, we've never had an altercation. I can't think of any time we've even witnessed (or heard) of one.
I guess we and our camping choices don't attract the kinds of "entertainment" y'all have encountered.
The dancing on the tables thing would have been nauseatingly funny, though... - colochoclabExplorerWhile we were not directly involved, We watched a fun one go down.
Last summer we were at Chatfield State Park in CO when a campsite party near us started getting louder and louder and louder until someone called the Rangers. A few minutes after the first Ranger arrived, more Rangers showed up followed closely by county Sheriff Deputies. Then a Sheriff K9. (All this in the middle of the day).
Other campers actually pulled out lawn chairs to watch! After about an hour, 4 people left in custody and the rest of the caming party packed up and left. Apparently a significant amount of drugs/contraband were found along with some outstanding warrants.
A soft round of applause was heard when they packed up and water bottles were given to the cops for their help! - Winged_OneExplorer
