- wintersunExplorer IINothing has changed with Carfax and other services. Best to buy from the original owner who has all the repair and maintenance records and will sign a full disclosure form that accompanies the bill of sale.
A autobody shop can do an inspection and tell you the state of the coach and whether or not it has been in a collision and whether or not it will need repairs to the frame, suspension, steering components, etc. in the near future. I would also write down the model and serial numbers for the fridge, stove, inverter, and other items and check online as to any recalls or repair problems so you know in advance and can negotiate a better price to allow for this. - leeperExplorerCar-Fax is just a gimmick for Car-Fax used car sells, their sales lots. There is so much hype from Car-Fax that some people will never figure it's just a sales pitch or scam. They need to believe it because they are told to. Car-Fax is being sued for saying the cars on their lots are all up to date with recalls. Seems that is false. Car-Fax doesn't check and they don't care about past recalls that are required to be up to date before selling a vehicle. So much for the hype.
- sjholtExplorerIn my case, the car fax worked out fine.
The car fax reported that the motorhome was refinanced 4 times by the same owners and when I inquired why, he said that his wife was going thru cancer treatments and they had to pay for them and then paid off the loans each time.
When I bought it- the title was clear. - RollnhomeExplorerThis is just a part of Carfax's very long disclaimer. Good luck getting your money back.
"If, prior to purchasing the Vehicle, the Claimant knew, or should have known, of the existence of a Branded Title for the Vehicle, CARFAX reserves the right to reject the Claim.
The Branded Title must have been issued by a motor vehicle agency from which CARFAX receives and loads data about Branded Titles in regular monthly transmissions. CARFAX may, at any time and without prior notice, change the terms of the Buyback Guarantee, or discontinue the Buyback Guarantee."
I have used CarFax 4 times and had three bad reports and one very questionable. I wil not pay for another report. - John_JoeyExplorer

You can still get a lot of info from CarFax. How many owners, how many states it was registered in, how many miles, has it been on auction block. It can still paint a picture of a hard or easy life even without 100% repair info showing up.
Don't think you get the "picture" being painted!.:R.
CarFax - one owner. Reality = four
States - 0ne. Reality = two (underwater in LA?)
Miles - 30K. Reality = 130K
Auction - no. Reality = yes, prob with speedo rolled back.
By then - what the hey does *any* repair/s matter?
CA (on the news) had problems of CarFax generating bogus info - by/for dealers - to close deals(?).
BTW - "AGC" (the OP) bet CarFax will be happy to take your $ for a report.
For a MH - run the VIN via your PD & the mfgr.
If you can't do a thorough inspection yourself, hire an appraiser, drive line mechanic, and/or mobile RV repair person to do it for you.
Money well spent - way better than relying on CafFax.
.
Clicky
I'm guessing there is more to your story then meets the eye. If what you are saying is true, then Carfax would be out of business pretty fast.
I would think Carfax would love it if you followed up with the buyback option, assuming everything is on the up and up with your purchase. Or is this another of those French model stories. :R - DtankExplorer

. - jkcruzer1ExplorerRan one on mine before I bought it. It showed one collision with no damage. I was perplexed, so I ordered the police report. Toad got damaged in a construction zone.

Any evidence of former repairs is better than no evidence.....
But what if it reports back as no prior damage, when it has, in fact, been in a major accident. What if it says it has been in an accident but hasn't ? You have paid good money to obtain very questionable/unreliable information. So how have you gained?
You need better and more accurate information than CarFax. - PastorCharlieExplorerAny evidence of former repairs is better than no evidence.....
