Chipmonk & Squirrel Damage Prevention Light?

After $1000 truck damage and less on our riding mower I am depserate for a solution. I have tried almost everything, fresh cap, critter ridder, moth balls, dryer sheets, live traps, D Con, plugged holes, old beagle dog, noise transmitter, and etc. with no lasting effect. DW won't let me shoot them. These things seem to work for mice but not on the bigger rodents. They just chew another hole in the shed and have to chase them out of the engine compartment of my truck most every day. Only thing I have not tried was leaving the light on in the shed and puting a light under the hood of the truck. Has anyone made this work? I'm thinking of maybe a solar light. Any help would be appreciated.
  • My son was just telling me about a solution he came up with. Get a 5 gallon bucket, drill 2 holes in opposite sides near the top of the bucket. Also drill 2 holes in a small tuna or cat food can, run wire through the can and secure to the holes on the side of the 5 gallon bucket. Put some water in the bottom of the bucket, put peanut butter in the small can. The chipmunks can walk the wire over to the can but then fall in the bucket and can't get out.

This won't work for squirrels. He used a large rat trap with peanut butter for the squirrels. I've heard that a string of cheap Christmas lights work under the hoods of cars/trucks to keep squirrels out, haven't tried it myself. You can also live trap squirrels, then relocate them several miles away. They are very destructive, once they find a source for chewing, yikes. Good luck
  • Have you tried the large wooden RAT traps? Looks like an extra large mouse trap.
Might not kill a squirrel so you will have to play whack a mole if you get one in the trap.
