Cleaning our carpet??

We are about to embark on a two month trip south and she would like to really clean the 10 year old carpet. What to do.
Worrying about what’s under the carpet has me concerned about using a wet type carpet cleaning system.
Are there any good options other than a steam type?
If that is the best perhaps we should wait till we are down in hot dry weather?
  • I have found that steam cleaning works best in our S&B and RV. The others don't seem to work as well.
I don't think steam cleaning leaves the carpets very wet.
If you're concerned about the moisture, put a dehumidifier in your rig and turn up the heat. It will dry quickly.

Personally, I would rather do it before the trip.
  • We clean ours, I spray the cleaner and hand brush the carpet, then use my sears industrial we/dry vac.
they will be damp or a couple days.

    wait for dry weather.
  • I have cleaned our carpet several times. I rent the commercial type and as long as you don't saturate the carpet, after extracting the water , it is damp. I wait for warmer days when doors/windows can be open. I also fill the tank with clean water and "rinse" the carpet after cleaning it. It pulls more soap and dirt out and seems to stay clean longer. I don't know what's under ours, but there has not been any damage from cleaning it. Have seen several who had professional carpet cleaners come to their site and clean the carpets. They have one that is narrower and one called a wide track - get the smaller one as it fits better along the bed etc. I always get hand tools too so I can do areas the cleaner won't fit into.
  • It's carpet. Not differnet than in a house IMO. Call a carpet cleaner or do it yourself. A fan and the heat on will dry it right out pretty sure.
  • If you're at one of the larger RV parks, check their bulletin board. Call a carpet cleaner for their first appointment in the morning, have it cleaned, leave and go sightseeing for the day. Leave the roof fans on.

  • I've found that even the best commercial cleaners leave it rather wet. I would wait for warmer weather.
