Since this has gone diesel vs gas, right I don't own one. I do work on them. And as I stated I wouldn't own a late model def equipped diesel. Ide rather stop for one more gas fill up rather than wait on the side of the road for a tow truck or be limited to 50mph because of an issue.
And ide love to see a diesel PU getting 15 mpg towing 15k plus lbs!!! Since that seems to be what people are claiming. If not, the actual mileage of 11 wouldn't sway me one bit to get a diesel. If and when the time comes and I wanted a diesel it would be a pre DEF Cummins.
There's nothing wrong with gas, my wife owns a six banger. ( sorry couldn't resist, it's one of my inherent flaws) ;)
I will say I would never claim those kind of fuel mileage ratings either, I can get 12 plus (via what the dash is telling me) pulling 10,000 pounds loaded though. I also don't worry about being stranded on side the road either.
I usually vary from 9.5-11.5 towing 14-15k.
At least you guys are giving realistic numbers. I've seen guys claim as much as 18 towing a 5'er and the one guy in this thread claims 15! Ugghh.
Well, to be honest, MPG isn't the reason I have a diesel. I prefer the way the diesel handles being loaded vs a gas engine, and some other things. - dodge_guyExplorer II

So if you are driving anything bigger than a 1/2 ton, they don't care. - mudmakerExplorerDon't understand why all the hub bub about diesels going in the shop frequently. I'm on my fourth one and other than a recall to get a computer reflash and a recall on an airbag they have never seen the service bay.
03 Dodge: had it for about two years. Bought with 147k and sold with 193k. Lots of nickel and dime stuff. Still have some parts lying around I should have sent with it.
08 Silverado: My daily driver. Bought with 68k. Now has 144k. Runs good. First year of recycle in the exhaust with diesel so mileage is poor but still over 12.5. It's a work truck and it's paid for.
12 Silverado: had it for about two years. Bought with 92k and traded with 112k. Ran great!
15 Silverado: my camping truck. Bought new. Had about 2.5 years so far. 24k miles. Granted I get about nine mpg loaded but I pull a 45 ft toy hauler too. Empty 50 mile average at Yellowstone park speeds (45ish) was 34.5 mpg. I was surprised too.
Have a recall for an airbag for the 08 that will probably never get done. They never have the parts to fix. Oh well.
I like the diesels much better. - dodge_guyExplorer IISince this has gone diesel vs gas, right I don't own one. I do work on them. And as I stated I wouldn't own a late model def equipped diesel. Well, I can't see ever needing a V-10, pretty happy with our V-8s... But, after reading threads on here for a few years I would never want to own a diesel. :pHammerboy wrote:

I certainly hope so! Be a great option instead of the problematic diesels!
I agree, also the extra $8000 for a diesel and high maintenance cost I would rather have Fords V-10 in a truck.
I love when I see quotes like this, it makes me wonder if they ever owned one. I have 200K miles between my current and former truck and never had a major repair. Diesels also hold there resale much better also, you will get the majority of that cost back when you sell or trade. It's kind of like me saying "never buying a gas, they have half the power, half the life, and half the fuel economy.

How dare you bring truth and logic into the ridiculous thread HAHAHA!!!
Only people that lie more about their fuel mileage than a diesel guy is a V-10 guy trying to sell how great they are!!
