Crosstrek/ready brake

Has anyone had experience installing the Ready Brute Elite braking system on a 2013 Subaru Crosstrek XV. I assume the process would be the same as installation on the Subaru Impreza since the Crosstrek is basically a modified Impreza.

I recently purchased a Crosstrek and am interested in setting it up for towing using the Ready Brute Elite system. It is my understanding that the Crosstrek/Impreza has a double fire wall that must be drilled to install the system. Any information regarding the placement of the drill hole and any other pointers on the installation would be greatly appreciated.

I contacted NSA Ready Brake and talked to a tech. Reason behind not using it on a double wall area is the length of the threaded fitting on the end of the cable. It's probably not long enough to go completly thru the double wall area and have enough thread left to tighten the nut down. Their solution is to drill the 3/8 inch hole thru both firewalls. Then enlarge the inside hole so you can tighten down the inside nut with a socket
It just depends on how much of a gap there is between the two walls.

It seems that there would have to be quite a space between the walls to require all that and like I said, we had plenty to work with on the older Jeep. My Wrangler is just a single wall, so no thought required for it's install.

Instructions say to move over a bit, rather than go through both walls, but like Grumpy, I don't see the problem and have helped do this on my neighbors 03 Wrangler for his install and we had plenty of thread length for this.
  • Al, I also bought a Crosstrek to use as a daily driver and to tow behind our Class C. I bought the Ready Brake System, but due to a stupid on my part (crushed my right hand pinkey-healing in a splint) I havent been able to install the Ready Brake.
I know the instructions say not to install the cable fitting in the double wall area, but for the life of me can't figure out why it would make any diference, unless the threaded fitting on the end is not long enough to go through the double wall area.
I've got to wait till my hand heals so I can do a proper check of where I'll be able to drill the mounting hole.
In the meantime I'm gonna call Ready Brake and see what they say, and I'll let you know.
