I have professionally trained all types of dogs for over 30 years, for all types of behaviors and

never had to hit, slap, poke, shock or otherwise hurt an animal to achieve a training goal.

Shock collars are for people too lazy to train the dog properly.

I have trained dogs for over 30 years also and have YET to meet a dog that couldn't be trained with conventional 'non abusive' training methods.

AND owners can do the same thing by getting their dog into a training class run by a competent trainer. Not at some store, or out of a book by a whisperer, a REAL training class.

When you were a child and you touched something hot, I'll bet it hurt and I'll bet you didn't do it again soon. Same thing with bark collars.

I agree with DogFolks & rockhill. shock collars and any other 'lazy' form of devices are used when the owner DOES NOT know what training to provide or won't take the time to bother finding a professional to help train/learn the techniques.

They work obviously. Out of abuse. Nothing wants to be shocked :)

No diff. with horses. Severe horrible bits, tie downs and more gear that ruin their mouths to keep control, simply because people do not know how to train their horses or will take them to a professional to learn proven non-abusive techniques.

The time/work you put into an animal, by yourself or hire a professional in the field, is what makes the difference.

I feel more respect for the owners that re-homed their pets. Knowing they did not want follow thru on this pet at this time and decided a new home was necessary.

JMHO

Dogs bark. It is the incessant, non stop barking that most object to. We tried everything with our dog to keep her calm while we were away. Sedatives , treats, soothing music but nothing worked. She was just an unhappy dog being left by herself. Hence we found a home for her where she is happy. Very sad for us but necessary.

When we owned a dog, this issue along with many, many others made us conclude there really was only one, good solution when it comes to dogs and camping/RVing:

LEAVE THE DOG(s) AT HOME. Pretty much eliminates ALL the problems that bringing dogs with you camping causes. Find a good friend, pet-sitter, or boarder that can keep the dog while you're gone. This way your trips are a vacation for both you and the dog.

I could go on and on with the reasons why we went this route, but I think its been well covered in the zillions of other 'dog' threads on here.

CG RULES. All this boils down to CG rules. If everyone 'obeyed' a couple of rules for camping at a CG there wouldn't be all this dog hating people hating arguments. It shouldn't even be up for discussion. A rule is a rule. If it says no barking dogs or no dogs left unattended in the RV? THAT's the RULE. OBEY it. Can't be more simpler than that.

There are rules at restaurants, rules of the road, rules where you work, etc. So WHY can't people follow the rules at a CG?

If a CG rule is not being followed tell the manager again and again until it is resolved. I paid for my site, I follow the rules. Trust me "I" am not going to be the one to leave because someone else can't read the CG rules.:W

This sounds just like my brother. I have camped next to them when they have left and one of the dogs barked non stop. He claims it was because they knew we were next door. I love my brother and I love his dogs but the fact of the matter is if you aren't there you don't know what the dogs are doing. He will swear on his death bed that the dogs don't bark when he is gone. I know better and he just isn't willing to accept that his "children" misbehave behind his back. I'm not picking on you guys but in reality unless you have a nanny cam to always monitor the dogs, you really don't know what is going on. That holds true for teenagers as well. Don't ask how I know that:B

I've setup an audio recorder... I know mine don't bark... crate training is the key... the trailer is not a crate. its their home. they feel they have to defend it.
