Emergency escape window height

The subject of using the emergency escape window came up in another thread. I did a quick walk around and discovered the rear window is taller than I am (6 foot tall) and the bedroom escape window is about 2 feet higher than me 6 +2 = feet. I never gave this a second thought till now but I will be ordering TWO OF THESE TYPE LADDERS FIRST THING TOMORROW

Has anyone else bought an escape ladder?

PS the 6 foot window may not be a big problem for me to use to escape, but is I have guests with small children it could save their lives

I have kept a fire extinguisher in every vehicle I have owned for the past 30 plus years. In addition to the extinguisher that came with the RV I also have a disposable in the front and back. It may not put out a fire but it could buy me some time.

You try to fight a fire any more serious than a skillet on the stove and you will be dead. The rescue personnel will recover your body from the charred remains of your RV. You will be overcome by smoke in less than a minute. Do you realize that most fire victims die of smoke inhalation, not the fire itself?
  • The few seconds you waste trying to get the ladder set in the window may be the few seconds that the other person in the camper needed to use to get out and SURVIVE.

I agree with the toss the grand kids out, then the wife and then follow.
  • At my bed I keep the ladder , one of those escape hammers . two motorcycle helmets , an extra set of glasses ,my fireman's boots and a set of scuba tanks . I do not know how my wife will get out with all that junk in her way !
  • Of course it can. But I don't think any of us can afford it.

I do agree and of course there is the recert, etc., that's been brought up. Just wondering if there's an idea out there that hasn't been thought of yet.
  • ON You Tube there is a video by Mac the Fire guy on how to get out through the window. It is worth watching

Had trouble finding it on you tube goto Mac the Fire guy .com

    LINK??
  • I think we all need to check to see if we can get ourselves through the window in the first place. The ladder may not come into play at all.

    Mmmmm...

If the coach is on fire I'm going to toss the wife and the dawgs out the nearest window or access.
IMO there won't be much time to fiddle with a ladder.

Keep a battery in the smoke detector, regularly test the gas detector.
Make sure a good large sized extinguisher is close at hand where you are sleeping.
We choose not to deadbolt the entry door at night also.

    Jump and roll...

    Absolutely the best advice!

Ditto...if it's an emergency that I have to go out the window. I'm not going to worry about a few feet and also not going to worry about where the ladder is. Because it probably got stored somewhere. My luck, in an outside bin. :)
