Enough is Enough - Out with the Norcold 1210

I am the second owner of a 2006 Montego Bay 36'5th wheel by KZ and I am only the second owner. The first owners barely used this unit and it was like buying a new RV when we found it. For the most part it is an A+ unit - exceptfor the Norcold 1210 refrigerator. I have now replaced the original cooling unit twice with an Amish unit. Twice because the first Amish unit failed within a few months but was replaced under warranty thankfully. This past week I replaced the heating elements, again, which I have done at least 2x now. The thing isn't getting as cold as we like - mid teens in the freezer and mid-30's in the box. I know, I know, some people would kill for those temps; but, when I first replaced the cooling unit I could get it into the negative numbers in the freezer and the 20's in the box.

So, enough is enough is enough and its going on Craig's list and a new residential unit is coming in as most of the time its at a beach RV park I can be happy with just using electric and not all the other issues that come with replacing it with a residential unit.

My sole and only question is what make and models will fit into the same space without modifications to the cabinetry which due to the Norcold's location and my DW isn't an option.

Thanks,
Ron S

    Good point.

  • Ivylog, the specs for the Whirlpool you referenced show its 65 1/2" tall x 32.5 wide and 32.5" deep. The Norcold 1210 requires an opening of 63.25" x 32.69" with a depth of 24". The Whirlpool you used would involve what I am trying to avoid which is cutting the woodwork above the unit, due to a 2plus inch difference I can't go lower, which would also involve trim work, more so due to the bottom step of the stairs going to the bedroom being in the way of the door sweep of the unit. The width and depth would work though.

BTW, I had seen your post before I asked for help and thought you did a most excellent job.

    Thanks

  • Sorry for your bad luck.

I do some dry camping so I love my Gas / Electric fridge that I have in my 1993 Travel Trailer. I get the feeling that maybe the newer ones are not as good.

I searched for several years and finally found a 21 cuft Whirlpool WRT311FZDW in white WRT311FZDB in black that came within 1/2" of height of fitting. It is not a counter depth unit so it may not come in your door.

Here is my DIY install and how I got the 1/2" I needed and kept the DW happy too.:B

whatever you get has to come through the front door... Some folks have removed a window to get theirs inside..
