There is your problem. Constant shifting / hunting. Creates HEAT. Read you manual, and you will see that Ford tells you to turn OFF overdrive IF the transmission is hunting. And running with the cruise on, makes the engine work to maintain speed, so it will cause hunting as well, as it drops gears to maintain your set speed.
BTW. With out the trans cooler / tow package. It is NOT rated to tow 8000lbs.
