Having owned 2 FF's on previous RV's, I'll still take the MaxxAir MaxxFan that I spec'd when I bought the Tiger over 7 years ago.. Can be open, running or off, parked or driving, in any weather, and has a lower profile either open or shut.
That looks like a good setup, but crikey $300?
I'm looking to replace the bathroom fan with a better one and was going to add a vent cover so we could run it when it rains.
That is what I thought too. I found a better and much cheaper way by using The Hengs Vortex Fan It is a simple install, just take out the screen and slide this in, no opening up the roof or having to reseal it.
And you use the existing 12 volt wire that your old fan used. The instructions are very easy to follow.
Much cheaper, less work and I put a Maxx Air cover over it so it can stay open.
I used PPl for an example there may be cheaper ones out there just shop around, I put the 5 speed one in my bathroom and it works great.
Did the same thing. Under $100 for the main room vent. Put a second cover over the bathroom fan since it is rarely turned on. The one in the main room pulls enough air to cool the entire trailer if windows at both ends are opened. - IAMICHABODExplorer II

Expensive? Yes. However, a comparable Fantastic Vent plus the vent cover to use the Fantastic Fan in the rain, will run about the same.DiskDoctr wrote:

Can be even more depending on the fantastic fan.
I just ordered two fantastic fans with the thermostat, but no rain sensor or remote. They were $157 each. The ultra breeze vent covers were $45 each. - AtleeExplorer IIExpensive? Yes. I like the fact that when it's not operating, it lays almost flat. And when it is operating, it will move almost the same amount of air as the Fantastic Vent. And it can remain up while moving down the road.

I know FF's customer service used to be great, but the new owners seem to be changing that. I can't testify to MA's, since I've never needed any customer service in over 7.5 years. The MA may flow a little bit less air or use more battery power, I dunno. But it creates a pretty darn good breeze even on low. I dunno why it's not more popular. But I'm happy with my choice.

only thing i don't like abt it is u have to screw in to roof, can't open to clean
Max attaches to vrent frame
Constructively speaking, the mounts which are included with the shroud, fasten to the vent frame by removing a pre-existing screw, placing the mount (4) onto the frame and replacing the screw. The mounts have a vertical metal stud that the shroud fits over and then is secured by a pin clip, similar to a cotter key. You can easily remove the four pins, remove the shroud for cleaning. An optional replacement screen for the back of the vent will promote restricting bugs from entering into the shroud interior. I believe Camping World web site has an installation brochure which displays the pin mounts. The shroud is designed to allow a Fan-Tastic fan to completely open the lid. Camping World has them on sale frequently. This information is posted constructively and not as a criticism of the additional postings! - Sfla2Exploreronly thing i don't like abt it is u have to screw in to roof, can't open to clean

I was initially concerned that the existing Fantastic Fan vent lid does not open completely with this cover, but after talking with the factory, it is what is intended. It does seem to be able to open more than with the CW, or Maxx Air covers that I tried first, and apparently allows more ventilation. (Thanks to CW for allowing me to return them)
