Fender flairs

I have a wheel opening flair on our 5vr and it has cracked around the screw mounting holes. What would be the best way to repair this plastic. I thought about fiberglass but sure how that would react with the plastic. Another option would be plastic cement with the fiberglass cloth for strength.

Ant thoughts on what would be the. best way to repair would be appreciated.

  • I haven't made the repair yet, but I'm going to use a 2part epoxy with the some fiberglass mat. Probably a couple of coats. I think that when the resin would begin to harden it gets hot and would melt the thin plastic. I will post when I get the repair done as to how it turned out. Might not get to it for a few days though.

    And when the replacements crack.......

Try the inexpensive Quick & E-Z method first!..;)

The cracking is easily fixed with some fiberglass repair on the *backside* of the fender.

Flexing is usually the cause - and *will/may* repeat in the same area again.
Use a strip of thin metal & pop rivets *under* the fiberglass mat and resin to stiffen the area of the crack.

    Faded?
Either store-bought spray paint (cheap!) -or- custom mixed (matched color) spray can from auto paint store for about $10-$15.

  • I fixed mine with fiberglass. I kept the repair on the inside so it is not visible. Works just fine.
  • Thanks B.O. I will call her, I have a couple of other issues that maybe she could help with.
