Well, this thread strayed far from the orig 2.7 questions. No surprise.
But for anyone reading this trying to glean info about fords different 1/2 ton truck engine offerings over the last 10+ years, some of the opinions here are very skewed and not correct in the real world, nor by the actual numbers.
5.4 Triton, good venerable engine, minus the few known flaws. None life threatening to the engine.
5.0 Coyote engine 2011 and up (not sure how the discussions got back to comparing to 1966 mustangs and other engines), vastly superior power and towing ability. partly due to engine, partly to the 6 speed.
Eco boost, even better than the 5.0. Totally different engine, but more of a direct comparison to the 6.2 in ability.
Not opinion, but fact by the numbers and by someone who put alot of heavy miles on pretty much every gas engine model and combo from the mid 90s through the mid 2010s. I worked for 2 different construction companies that ran fleets of thousands of Ford gasser pickups and had a new or different rig almost every year and seat time in hundreds more, doing what the trucks were meant for....towing and hauling stuff and lots of highway miles.
