Ford 2.7 eco boost

Just wondering what people that have the 2018 Ford F-150 10 speed trans. 2.7 ecoboost think. Purchased a new camper Spirit 2963BH dry is 6408 will probably end up around 7K loaded up. Towed my expandable with it didn’t even need the weight distribution hitch and felt good. The new camper I will be towed for the most part in southern Illinois (flat ground).

  • Per Coachman, shelby, 690 pounds tongue weight dry...for what’s worth.
The box is almost 34 feet long.

  • The 2.7 is a great engine, I know several people who have it. If you’re within payload, maximum tow rating and you’re towing on flat ground, I would think you’d be ok. You’ll definitely want the wdh. One thing you’ll definitely miss is the 36 gallon gas tank that comes with the max tow package.
  • Do you know the tongue weight of the new trailer? Payload is what is likely to bite you, if anything. When pushing the limits, E rated LT tires will help if you are currently using Ps. They won't increase your rating but will help the squirm.
  • If you can’t accurately determine the probable weight of your loaded/wet TT you can’t estimate whether or not a particular TV will pull and carry the weight. Further, 1192 pounds of TT cargo capacity stinks. Yes, I’m spoiled....with 3220 pounds. Your truck is rated in a number of ways. You mentioned only max gross trailer weight. What’s its payload? You’ll have around a thousand in tongue weight.
  • Lwiddis, the gvwr for the camper fully loaded is 7600lbs, further more was there really a response to the question in your post at all? My truck is rated at 8600Lbs. with the 3.71 axle. Was looking for some real world experience with this truck and something this large.
  • My brother used to tow a 7500 lb boat, while toting a small in bed camper. His 2.7 Ecoboost was mated to their old yet venerable 6 speed. He was happy with that setup in the Cascades of Washington, and said it performed very well. But, yes he had to add air bags.
  • “Spirit 2963BH dry is 6408 will probably end up around 7K loaded up.“

You are kidding yourself. If the manufacturer’s weight is accurate at 6408 just adding a full tank of water will add 408 pounds - 49 gallons x 8.34 pounds per gallons. Plus propane and batteries you are at 7000 with no stuff...chairs, bikes, food etc. Another 6 gallons in the water heater...49 pounds.
  • Let us know how it works out. Wouldn't think much about it if it was the 3.5. But the 2.7 is concerning, and you WILL need the WDH with that TT. Have fun.
