Help Needed For Buying Another 5th Wheel

Our 5th wheel is about 12 years old and I am not comfortable pulling it any longer because it is so long.

We were looking for another around 28-31 foot long with opposing slides. I have found two that has my attention one is 2016 never used the other is a 2014 used four times. I have just about settled on the 2016 THEN I decided to check reviews.

Both of these trailers are made by Keystone. The 2016 is Keystone Hideout ($26,000) and the 2014 is Keystone Cougar ($24,700). After looking at reviews it seems the Keystone has all kinds of issues including their warranty. Is this just people who bought lemons or does Keystone have issues on their quality?

Everyone's help is very much needed and wanted.

avoid anything with the words of Light, Lite, Extra Light,, you get what I am saying..

I want from a 21 foot ( 3,300 pounds) to a 30 foot ( 8,300 pounds) inside and out, much stronger, better quality.. my opinion.
and the heavier one is 1 year older then the lite one.

These are exactly what I have seen recently. Thank you for this gold nugget. I will avoid all of the above.

    This has been my worry.

  • I think you should keep looking for awhile longer. Compare similar units. Consider what you want, solid and heavily built, or light and thin. Consider weight, my rig at 25'10" weighs as much as some that are 6 feet longer. When I looked at reviews on it, there was not a single bad review. Most said it was the best they ever had.

Sometimes buying a quality rig a few years older makes sense if it was well looked after.
  • I would not worry about warranty. Generally, you can assume that most all RV warranties are not worth the paper they are written on.
If the used, 2014, fits your needs, I would go for that one. Since it has been used some, the previous owner may have gotten some of the factory bugs worked out of it. The new 2016, on the other hand, will likely have a number of factory defects/quality control issues, that you will have to address. So possible much less aggrevation with the used RV.
