- TurnThePageExplorerSome of the perspectives are interesting too. I think where you are traveling may play into the correct answer. Those traveling the eastern side of the country, or up and down the west coast will have many more obstacles and opportunities for stopping. But in the west it's possible to go hundreds of miles with no destination nearby. Very boring but easy driving.

The 550 miles that I want to pull is first day only. We live in Texas and I just want to get to New Mexico so I can feel like I have made some progress. You realize this isn't really much of a question, but love the answers everytime someone asks this on here. Surprised really, it usually ends up in a argument between the 200 mile a day ers and the 800 milers.
Why are you asking? Never driven that far in one day before? Is there some special concern about it other than a personal preference?
Sorry, and to answer your original question, Max miles towed in a day is around 1000. Haven't gotten more than that in the same 24hour period. - DurbExplorerThe length of our towing time is determined by whatever it takes to get to our destination. We travel well together, hit the rest stops, and consider the travel time time as part of the vacation. Our truck/trailer tows relatively stress free. It would be different if I had to fight it or white knuckle down the road. Traveling through scenic and beautiful country helps. We can tear off 12 hours no problem.
- doc_brownExplorerMy longest day was 733 miles only because i was traveling west and had two time changes. I’m a solo traveler and I stop every 2 hrs for a break and after lunch a 30 minute nap. Each summer I drive from California to Virginia and my first day both ways is typically 550 miles. After that I’m usually around 350 miles on driving days.

The first year after retirement I drove 450 and get up at o'dark 30 and do it all over again. Then I said what the hell m I doing this for, im retired I dont have to be anywhere on a certain date or time. So I made this rule 2-2-2. 200 miles by 2 o'clock and stay at least 2 days. I have to admit every once in a while a 300 mile day sneaks in. People sometimes ask why did you pick that place and I tell well it was 200 miles from the last place I stayed
I'm not retired but I had the same epiphany.
Why am I making my vacation and endurance challenge? To get somewhere to start my vacation? I am towing my entire vacation behind me.
I don't have to reach or be at my final destination to enjoy my vacation.
With that in mind a slowed down to max. 300 or so miles per day.
Believe it or not there is always something worthwhile in between home and the destination where the water is just as wet and the cooler and fire pit work just as well. - hotpepperkidExplorerThe first year after retirement I drove 450 and get up at o'dark 30 and do it all over again. - drsteveExplorer600 miles. Only did that once--too tiring, and no fun for the kids. Now that I'm retired, a nice relaxed 300 is about all I'm willing to do. I'd rather stop and smell the flowers than run a marathon.
- memtbExplorerFrank, when you mentioned the distance to travel, believe it or not, Texas came to mind. On my first “big” vacation with with the family ( 6 in a van towing a pop-up camper), we left Baton Rouge and didn’t stop until Wichita Falls. After that, easy days and enjoyed (most of the time) the 20 days on the road.

- SweetLouExplorerI do sometimes 650 towing a 16ft cargo trailer but won't do 5th wheel again. To tired at end of the day.
