Hydraulic levelers to change tire

I had to do that once with my old 36' Bounder, but the jacks were the verticle type rather than swing down. It worked but agree you'd never want to get any body part underneath.

Reminder:
If you're replacing the tire on the left side, and lifting the MH with the levelers, it's better to lift the left front AND the left rear (the same amount) so as to NOT twist the frame. (if replacing tire on the right side, use this same procedure on the right side).

Buster, I've use the on board levelers many times to get a tire off the ground and then slide jack stands under the RV. Check the capacity of your jacks. I suspect that they are rated to lift your RV off the ground. You MUST block the front tires when raising a rear tire off the ground. I carry a bottle jack capable of lifting a rear tire when on the road. I unload the suspension some and then finish the lift with the bottle jack.

We had a 2004 Fleetwood Terra 32'. On the way home from the Grand Canyon, I had a front tire start to separate. I removed the spare, loosen the lug nuts and then lifted the front end. I spent a minimal amount of time with the unit in the air....just enough to slip the old one off and the new one on.

If you have an outer dual flat like a poster above, you don't need to lift the coach, just run the inner dual up on a block.

I think the only difficult/dangerous tire to change would be an inside dual. I would want a jack stand in that situation if I used the coach's jack.

The simple answer is yes, but not without proper precautions. If in doubt, don't.

Any two of my Bigfoot jacks are capable of lifting abut 10,000 lbs more than the entire coach weighs, so lifting a side to change tires does not concern me. If I'm doing more than just changing a tire, yes, I'll stick jack stands under the axles. I won't however, crawl under the coach to place a jack stand when just changing the tire is both quicker and safer.

I am not planning on working on my rig while supporting it using the levelers. Just a thought of if I have to change a flat. Most accident while changing the tire is when the jack slips out. Being one end of the levelers is attached to the rig, it would be less likely to fall. I am replacing the air spring on my rig and noticed the if the tire was flat how would I get a bottle jack under the axle to raise the tire off the ground. And a floor jack is a bit large to store on board.

The HWH hydraulic levelers on my MH, factory installed on Spartan chassis, are designed to be able to lift all tires off the ground. This doesn't mean it's safe to go under the MH and do any work on it. Jack stands that are properly rated for the job must be used. I've used large hardwood blocks under the front suspension framework.

I have used my 6 point leveling system to swap tires on my TH...as a matter of fact, I am leveled up right now with a tire off the deck. While the literature says not recommended (because of liability reasons), if done with the right support equipment, it will work fine (jack stands under the axles incase of failure).

I don't have a Class A, but have unsafely raised my share of vehicles. If the hydraulic levelers can lift the Class A (seems like I've seen a bunch of motorhomes with their tires off the ground), hadn't you better at least put some jack stands under it before removing a wheel? Would be a mess if the hydraulics gave out and the motorhome fell onto the axle.
