- tragusa3ExplorerWe want one! Just haven't pulled the trigger yet. I keep waiting for these "sales" that are frequently discussed ($100 or less). Haven't seen them yet.
- Dick_BExplorerMaybe we're doing something wrong but in 13 seasons we have yet to use an ice cube!
- ronniedean1234ExplorerWe have had one for about 3 years, would not leave home without it, no problems at all, I have a friend that has had about 3 of them with problems, I think the key to keeping them working well is to handle then with care, I keep ours in the box and always dry out the interior as best as possible when not in use...
- JoeTampaExplorerWe have the Dometic, same as you can get at CW, but we got it on sale at Target.
Pros: Never pay for ice again, or have to go get it.
Cons: Takes a while to produce the first batches of ice, can be noisy in quiet environments.
We run ours a bit different than most have posted here. Since we are weekend warriors, we don't bother moving/storing the ice in the freezer. We just leave it in the ice maker. When it is full, it shuts off, and melt will eventually cause it to remake more ice. The melt goes back into the water reservoir. The bottom line is that there is al last always a full ice load in the ice maker, which will provide enough ice for 3-7 drinks depending on how much ice you use per. That is usually just fine for us. By the time we need more, it's already made. When it's time to leave, we drain the remaining water out (there is a drain plug) and prop the door open with a plastic piece so that it airs out. We love it. - MrWizardModeratorwe had a "ice-N-easy" for 6yrs, i think we wore it out, used it every few days, the whole time we had it. loved it, but it was heavy, left it on the floor and covered it when not using it
replaced it last summer with a slightly smaller much lighter model labeled Emerson, it takes a few more cycles to get up to full size, takes a little longer on the first few cycles, but it is smaller, more square, flap on top, easier to store
we make a couple of one gallon bags, full, put it in the freezer
when we run low we make more before we run out, so we always have enough cold HARD ice
we wouldn't be with out one, we like them - GramaofAAAAExplorerWe bought ours at Camping world 2 years ago. We love it! We have it set up in the basement by the door. We drink fresh Iced Tea all day, so make a lot of Ice. We dump it into a large Zipper bag and put it in the freezer as it needs to "harden" so it doesn't melt fast. I will buy another when this one dies!!
- wildtoadExplorer IIMy DW bought one the other week. I've tried it out, and think we could just as well have bought a few plastic ice trays. It makes ice, not hard frozen, and you then have to remove it and put it in your freezer. It may be ok to make a batch of ice, but it is not the same as an ice maker you may be used to in your freezer.
- malexanderExplorerWe had one, really liked it.
It doesn't work very well now, it fell off the counter while we were driving.
We decided not to replace it, the new to us MH has an ice maker in the freezer. - Ski_Pro_3ExplorerThere are several different grades. Mostly dealing with how much ice per day they will produce. The ice is barely frozen, like, 30 degrees, not zero degrees like you get at the store or from your own freezer. You can place new cubes in your freezer to make them colder.
When shopping for one, be sure to compare how many pounds of ice per hour it claims to produce, not just price. - mydazeoffExplorerYes they work well but keep in mind it's not a ice maker like your house refrigerator. It makes ice on a cold stem not in cube shape. I take one with me in the summer an dump the ice in the cooler to keep can and bottle drinks cold. It keeps a lot of traffic out of the camper refrigerator.
