Oh my, K&N did not come out too good. :E
I think that is referencing the same test! Or at least one with the same resulting data!!!
I would still like to hear what people think they are gaining by using a K&N filter that is documented to let in more dust?
If one whats to flow more air and protect there engine, get a BHAF that I pictured and ran for several years.
BTW I still have a free one available for a 1998.5-2002 Dodge Cummins!!!!
Or a free BHAF for the same!!!!
And no the K&N filters on the boat are not available, as they work fine in that no/low dust environment on old mechanical injection engines!
Chris
I guess my point was this test was not written by some administrator on a Nissan sports car club as was stated above.
It was preformed under SAE J726/ISO 5011 air filter test standards with a very pricy air flow stand. This was an independent test study with no axe to grind.
I do not think some people are reading it! They have their minds made up that there are no issues, mean while real science proves there are issues. To each their own!
Sort of like someone that has never had a problem with brand X ST tires while a lot of others have had problems stating that the tires are just fine, go forth and use them.

Or you just wrote it off to someone's brother's, son's, girlfriend's,
father's, drinking buddy!!!
Just saying! Maybe you^
Chris
So you linked a Nissan club website and an article written by an administrator?!! OK if you say so! Good job
I wish this thread was filtered by a paper filter! It would eliminate a lot of hot air!!!!
I see this thread closing soon! I hope! Lots of misinformation being thrown around out there!
Here's another report to read. Oh my, K&N did not come out too good. :E - dodge_guyExplorer II

I run my X in the dunes once a year and in those 4 days you can see all the sand collected in the K&N. I did pull the filter immediately after just to check to see if any got by. I found no dust or anything past the filter. And I have never had to clean a MAF sensor ever due to a K&N. I've only cleaned them as a maint. Procedure. This is also a fact.
So there you go, full scientific proof that they are not a problem!

Yep, doesn`t get much more hands on than that! 50k miles and no issues at all. much more scientific than "my brothers, friends, fathers, uncles, cousins, grandpa used one and he didn`t like it!" I love how those that don`t use it, think that those of us that do without issues are crazy!
If you want to run with 100+ year old technology go right ahead! that is the reason the manuf. use the paper filters, they are cheap and easy for the arm chair DIY`er to swap out!
:R - Cummins12V98Explorer IIIFrom what I understand the makers of AFE air filters came from K&N and started making a superior oil type air filters. I have ran the big cone type on my 98 RAM 12V for about 250K of it's 380K life and I have done several oil samples thru Blackstone over the years and the tests came back good.
But I would never even run an AFE on a vehicle that has sensors that can and will be fouled.
Stick with stock filters like on the 4th ten RAM's because they can deny warranty coverage if they choose, Besides the stock filters filter very well and flow plenty of air. - Me_AgainExplorer III
