- keymastrExplorerAs Bumpyroad mentioned, many states are now requiring an endorsement to operate watercraft and an age limit similar to drivers licenses. Sure, you can fail and retake the test but you have to watch the videos first to know what answers they are looking for. The point is that at a minimum you are seeing the proper way to operate your equipment, rather than driving off the lot with little or no instruction from some salesman who is certainly not going to say you are not experienced enough to take delivery. His total focus is to get rid of you so he will be available for a new customer.
And the throwable for a single occupant of a boat is to rescue someone from another boat you may find in the water. - wandering1Explorer

I hope the van driver gets at least 25 years in prison. - wandering1Explorer

The state troopers in NC filed felony charges on an individual that had an inadequate tow vehicle for a TT which started fishtailing, turned the whole rig over on the I40 median, killed the drivers son and seriously injured his daughter. I hope he ended up sitting in prison thinking about his children because of his refusal to get an adequate tow vehicle. These dummies endanger everyone on the hiway. - D_E_BishopExplorerBoy1 what a response. All I can say is that's what we pay the CHP for, they're earning their money.

Not all of this is ignorance. Some of it is self - delusion in the name of cheapness. DH has been told by people with brand new, pricey rv's with two thousand dollar tv antennas that the cost of aux toad brakes is just too much, and they probably won't be in any accidents, anyway.
DH needs new "friends".

- Cloud_DancerExplorer IIIMO the right thing here would be to properly secure the hitch. This is much more important than the possible overload situation.
What will it take to insure that everyone NOT fail to properly match the ball size to the hitch socket, install the lock pin, or in my case to tighten the knob, and to secure the chains? Would that be a short check list, or better yet,.....a DO LIST? - msgtordExplorerI think it's more disturbing that so many are worried about the law and possible lawsuits.
Why don't we concern ourselves with preventing needless injury and death.
Do the right thing. - BumpyroadExplorer

One I'm aware of is in areas where Coast Guard & Coast Guard Auxiliary patrol, they will do a safety inspection and give you a one year sticker that indicates you passed. Then, hopefully the CG, game wardens, etc. wont stop to check you again. It isn't related to state registration.
The throwable rule when solo is kind of odd :)
I just remembered that in fact Virginia (possibly/probably others) is phasing in a "licensing" requirement for water craft. IIRC the date that this is required is based on your age or some such. My friend who runs a boat repair service had to get one to be able to run jet skis which is in effect now. If that is enforced a lot of the kids who tear up my creek will be in trouble.
but this basically is a joke, I took it via computer. misread one question and flunked the first time. immediately retook it and sailed right through. certainly will not make boating any safer. just more meaningless red tape from the govt.
bumpy - OaklevelExplorerMy TO 20 is fairly easy to start :) Got to know how to operate it.
Inspections on trailers will not prevent improper hitch-ups.
More licence requirements will not prevent all accidents. Oh yea, ya never see a tractor trailer have an accident. But an 80000 lb vehicle can do alot of damage.
Car & any vehicle inspections are fine but the stats show no difference in accidents in states that have inspections & ones that do not. & if you know the right people you can buy inspection stickers any way. But you defeating the purpose. But some do.
