MICE

I've never had a mice problem at my house in all the years I've owned a camper. I had mine at the shop for 3 months over the winter and brought a couple mice back home with me. I just found droppings the other day and did some quick research here.

I purchased a product called Fresh Cap and I put 8 packs thru-out the camper with two inside the underbelly. I came back a couple hours later and found one mouse scattering on the ground when he heard me.

That stuff must work because my boy was out there before me and heard a scratching sound near the back of the camper. I hope it sends them all running!

  • Put out Fresh Cab a few years ago. The mice chewed up the bags and made nests out of it.
Been using moth balls since. Haven't had a mouse. We're out in the country surrounded by corn and soybean fields.
  • I had great results with the Fresh Cab but I still put out traps and i catch mice in the traps before i even know they are here.

Fresh Cab will get them to leave... but wont prevent them from coming in and doing damage before they leave.

I have caught one mouse in a glue trap. I've caught six in regular traps baited with Good n Plenty. It's a no mess bait.
  • Whatever works in your case. we bought sor of the sonic repellers thingies several years ago, and have several plugged into unused outlets whenever we connected to shore power and will not be staying in the rig. DW can hear them beeping, so they have to go when she is in. Don't know if they work, but we haven't had any mice in a long time, so we just keep using them. Have not seen any elephants either.
  • Tried peppermint oil, dryer sheets. Does nada. Best defense against mice is a cat colony. Nothing like a feline walking from under your rig with a big, fat rat in its mouth.

Next to cats, snap traps work, but make sure they are the wide-trigger type (JAWZ brand, for example), so they are usable with/without bait. Sticky pads work as well, but make sure to note where they are, and keep them out of the way of other animals.

I have seen a poison (called RatX) offered at Lowe's which uses corn glutin meal and salt. It must be kept dry, but apparently it is usable against mice/rats, since they will eat it, not bother drinking water then expire. Because it is "just" salty, it isn't really toxic to other animals.
  • sticky traps work great and easily removes the dead mouse. Poison bait could result in mousey dying someplace that you'll have to find when it starts to stink.
  • Been using Fresh Cab, peppermint oil, dryer sheets inside and traps outside.

none of it really matters if they REALLY want to get in, make sure you have no entry points/holes!
