Heard a rumor today from an RV dealer that legislation is coming that will require a CDL (Nationwide) when driving or towing anything over 10,000 lbs. Seems like just a rumor to me but don't put anything past our 'leaders' in Washington.

You're right. It's just a rumor. And I think that you and your RV dealer contact might be able to take credit for starting it, because I can't find anything else about it on the whole internet!

Commercial only! If I'm trailer tow testing a prototype vehicle and trailer and I'm over 10k I must meet DOT requirements (inspections/logbooks/etc.), and state licensing requirements (Chauffeurs/CDL). CDL requirements are state by state, not a federal thing. BUT! If i'm pulling a TT with my own Grand Cherokee and over 10K no special requirements are needed....

More testing *may* get some off the road - and/or force others to improve skill & knowledge levels to stay on the road.

The rumor may be to misunderstanding the Fed law that created the CDL.states get more hwy tax dollars if the fed standards adopted per my friend that's a compliance inspector for TX DPS.
Tx adopted so now if your rv goes over 26000 combined you have to test for A non CDL.all I really know about it is I have mine.

CDL Means Commercial Drivers License! Has nothing to do with private RV's. Some states do require a Class A Non Commercial License when operating a MH over 26,000 lbs and maybe some combination of trailer but I don't know about that.

The random stuff,you need a Green Medical card. (And they can call you for Random Drug testing.....Anytime they feel like it..).to Drive...Haul Commercial....ANY COMMERCIAL....NOT JUST........C.D.L.

Wanna see the RV market dry up? Make you pass a CDL to pull it... There will be alot of new 9900lb trailers hitting the market..

Don't know about any federal law but many states now have a special cdl requirement for RVs. Class A written & road test with no medical for trailers over 10000 & class B written & road test & no medical for MH over 26000. I suspect within a few years all states will conform to these requirements.
