- Pirate1ExplorerThis outcome could have easily been totally different.
The neighbor risked his life for a $20K trailer. Most criminals these days pack a heater and wouldn't hesitate to plop a slug into your forehead and leave you drooling on yourself for the rest of your life.
The neighbor was an idiot IMO. He should have parked his vehicle in front of the the thief to block him in and then run for his life.
Chasing after a thief is just asking for death.
I'm beyond belief on how many people are cheering for this guys irresponsible behavior.
Save your heroism for defending a persons life, not their trailer. - littlemoExplorerHaven't been on the forum for a few days so my 2 cents worth is a little late but here it is "Hoorah for Bob". What a neighbor!
If we could all have and be a neighbor like that! - colliehaulerExplorer III

I think I would have drove around the corner while they hooked up and called police. I would stay on the phone with police and followed them until the police caught up.
I like the way the driver left his buddy swinging. However I'm not risking my life over a material possession. My family dang right, but a trailer sorry no.
No way to know what was in the runners pockets. - buckyExplorer III like the way the driver left his buddy swinging. However I'm not risking my life over a material possession. My family dang right, but a trailer sorry no.
No way to know what was in the runners pockets. - toedtoesExplorer IIIAnd i'm not saying the criminals should be able to get away with it or people should do nothing to stop a crime. I'm just saying put it in perspective - he stopped the crime just by stopping.
- toedtoesExplorer IIIWhen the daughter went over to get the phone, the criminal could have grabbed her leg and pulled her down. She could have easily have hit her head on the pavement and been seriously injured. I don't want someone taking that risk trying to catch a criminal after they already gave up trying to steal my property. Just call the cops and me. You've done enough and i'm truly grateful. My possessions aren't as important as your health/life and I don't want the guilt trip.
- majorgatorExplorerI see the mods have been busy scrubbing this thread of anything they might disagree with. Typical...

FWIW, we need more neighbors like this. I would do it for my neighbor (and I don't even know them). I would hope my neighbor would do the same for me. I sternly reject the notion that the neighbor shouldn't have done something. An able body person who can help should help.
I agree people should help - simply stopping was enough to prevent the crime from being completed. I just don't want someone getting hurt or killed trying to chase down the jerks - at that point, I think it is more helpful to get as much identifiable information about the guys than trying to tackle them.
Criminals are what they are: CRIMINALS. They don't deserve the opportunity to escape freely without being challenged. Now, had any of the criminals been brandishing a firearm, then the game changes. In this case though, I'm all for taking action!!! - toedtoesExplorer III

That guys lucky he didn't run into 30 year old Bob.
