LP Gas Article

Changes probably unknown by MAJORITY of propane vendors.
  • I tried to get my little 1lb tank recertified over at the PitStop in Quartzsite a few weeks ago, and apparently with this change they are now required to remove the valve for some reason. So it either has to be empty or they'll do it for you.
  • Recert doesn't affect frame mounted tanks
My problem, was this guy did not know the difference
And I like going there because the price is good, and I can go at almost any hour early morning or late evening, or in between
  • Not to high jack the thread, but who can do the visual certification? I have done some google searches for my area and have not come up with anything.

I had an issue with the guy up on Sierra Hwy many years ago. He insisted on certifying the tank, I said no.. I called his supplier who said it would be better to find another fill because this guy refused to listen even to the supplier.
  • Roanoke has Amerigas, Davenport Energy and Suburban. All should be suppliers. Call them and see if any of them can do recertification.

Best place to check is a place that has the large bulk propane tanks that fill trucks for home delivery. If they are also open to fill cylinders for gas grills and trailers they probably can inspect them. Places like U-haul, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware and Southern States in my area only fill cylinders and do not inspect or recertify.

I got tired of trying to find local place here and had mine recertified at Phillips Energy in Gloucester Va. They have the large tanks and do rural home delivery of propane as well as installing and hooking up tanks at the home. They are full service operation. They also sell gasoline, diesel and kerosene. They are about 35 miles from here but I go that way once in a while. I called ahead to make sure their inspector was there before heading there.
  • Another reason to just exchange the portable ones in. Even if I am getting ripped of on the propane amount. I only use about 2 - 3 tanks a year. At 20 dollars for exchange it's not worth the hassle of re-certification.

Or, if I have the time I just fill them at home out of the big tank on the barn.

Thanks mobeewan for the info. I will try the places you mentioned.
