Owning 2 RV's

We have a 35.5' 5th wheel. We're considering getting a second RV. Most likely a smaller travel trailer around 25'. We love the 5th wheel but can't get it in to some campgrounds and locations because of the height and length. There's only the two of us so a small trailer would work for shorter trips.
Anyone else doing this?

I didn't expect this many replies. I've been thinking about this for some time now. I'll likely take the plunge in the next few weeks.

not sure about up north where you are but in our state there are no property taxes or registration fees for a truck camper, no added tires, wheels bearings or brakes to maintain and you already have a good 3500 truck ,we are in the process of buying a truck camper to replace the fifth wheel which was great for long stays but we want to be on the move more and use the older rustic type campgrounds so we are going to give the truck camper a shot , to costly in my state to own and operate two RV's a truck and at least one car between taxes and insurance and registrations the truck camper will cost us less to own and operate and maintain.

No additional taxes here after the original purchase. I considered a truck camper but find that they're a little too confined for me. My wife doesn't like the bed up over the cab either. If I get a travel trailer I will be able to carry my bike and kayaks on the roof and ATV in my pickup box. I will have the additional cost of insurance regardless. I can do my own wheel bearings. I'm having fun spending my kid's inheritance.

This was the combination we had about 10 years ago. The two RV's and the dog are gone, but my wife is still here. Coming up on 53 years with her...

Congrats on the 53 years. You have us beat by 10.
  • We actually have three campers - 2 are on adjacent seasonal sites (the "big house" and the "guest quarters") and 1 is a class B for 1 or 2 special trips during the season and 1 or 2 trips a month during the off season.
  • 28' Travel Aire and a 2001 Dodge Quad cab diesel dully along with my posted unit that we have had for 16 yrs.
  • We have a TT for DW and I, and I also have an older popup for boondocking with the guys in places I won't try to take the TT.
  • We have two 5th wheel toy haulers, the larger one we leave at a campground and the smaller one we take to races...works great for us.
  • We have a Park model in FL. where we spend the winter , a S&B in Mi as the base camp and the TT in my Sig. we really enjoy the nomad life style and the comforts of home.

Thanks! We're hoping for a lot more years together... :)
  • Yup! We had the 5th wheel for roominess; a 28' Class C for sheer convenience; a pop-up TC for getting into those little rustic campsites that the big RVs don't fit into; and now we're stalking a Transit Cargo van to convert....LOL! We don't own ALL of those, but they all overlapped each other at some point.
  • Just wanted to give an update. Last Friday we put down a deposit on a 2017 Passport Elite 19RB. Pick it up the beginning of July.
    Thanks everyone for your replies.
