Question about F350 with B&W in the factory puck system

This is just for anyone who is using the B&W in the 2011-2015 F350 LWB with the factory 5th wheel prep. I have been using a B&W for several years. On my old F350, I could open the front storage on my 5th wheel while it was hooked to the truck. I just noticed this weekend that with the new truck I can't open the storage. It hits the tailgate of the truck. I have the hitch set up with the vertical mounts positioned so the hitch is closest to the cab of the truck. It seems to put the center of the hitch right above the center hole in the truck bed. Is everyone else using it this way or are some of you with the same set up running it in the opposite direction. If you are running it with the hitch toward the tailgate let me know how it pulls. I would like to turn mine around but I don't want the hitch pin to be behind the axle of the truck. Thanks in advance.

  • The B & W puck system for Ford only has the forward and reward position. I have mine set at the reward position and it tows fine. My trailer is a Reflection 337 and weighs 12,900 loaded. I just got back from a 3000 mile trip into the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming. Could not be more pleased with my F350 and the B & W Hitch, all works great. The trailer is closer to the truck than my F250 was with the B & W Companion.

Most of those hitches have 3 locations, forward, centered and rearward. Why do you have yours forward esp on a long bed? I have the B&W in a new Ram with the puck system with hitch in the center position and don't have any issues. Can't think that moving it to rearward position would make much diff in towing, just would put your pin weight more toward tailgate.

Why with a long bed would you place hitch in the center instead of full forward?

Op if you want the B&W to be as far forward the side pcs need to have the straight side toward the cab and the angled sides toward the tailgate.

That is how I have it now. But, I just need to know if anyone with the Ford is using it the other way and how it tows.

At this time I'm not pulling anything close to load rating on my truck, I can access doors and have tailgate down when hooking up so all is good at center point, when I get my new one then maybe I'll move it forward, maybe not.

    Got it!

  • On my old one in my 2004 it did have three positions. For some reason with the new puck system on the Ford, there is only one set of bolt holes front to rear. It still has the three vertical positions but the only adjustment you can make on front to back is which way the vertical mounts are pointed. So I have it so the hitch pin is right over the axle. If I turn it around that would put the hitch pin a about 1-2 inches behind the axle. The instructions don't address it and every picture I can find shows it the way I have it. I have always read to keep the hitch pin over or slightly in front of the axle. The only problem is my storage door on the 5th wheel hits the tailgate. That's not even a big deal because I rarely need to open it when it's hooked to the truck. But last week my landing gear lost a bolt and I needed to fix it. It made it a real pain to work on with the door resting on my back while I was crunched over in the compartment.
