rear living with slide a problem?

I am considering several different floorplans of rear living TT.
Such as a keystone bullet 269RLS and a rockwood 2604ws.
I have looked at about 15 plans that are similar size and weight.
Will be pulled behind a 2014 F 150 ecoboost. I would be well within all my safe limits.
My question is, they all have the kitchen and water heater etc, situated so they exhaust under the awning.
Wouldn't this be a problem with the water heater blowing hot air directly on you?
I know it doesn't make a lot of sense (to me) to put the kitchen in a slide. Some of those parts I prefer not to have moving frequently.
I just wanted to hear from someone, who has all the heat producing appliances, exhaust under the awning. Does this cause a problem?
I live in extreme south FL. so we do a lot of camping in hot weather, and do sit outside.
Thanks for your opinion or experience.

  • I had a Itasca with basement A/C that vented near the awning. Now this was problem on hot days when the A/C was running frequently. It was also very noisy.

Your furnace will not be running generally when you are setting outside. Your water heater is insignificant for heat expulsion.
  • Our trailer has the range, fridge and hot water heater in the slide on the drivers side. There has been no issue having the appliances there.
  • The water heater on gas is noisy but expels little heat to the outside. If it has an electric option, and many do, then it will be silent and expel no heat in the electric mode. If you are at a campground, you will want to use their electricity to heat the water, rather than your propane.

My last RV had the furnace on the passenger side under the awning. It was actually kinda nice, since the only time you run the furnace is when it's cold, and that provided an outdoor "hand warmer"!!! WH doesn't exhaust much heat at all. My current RV has the furnace in the rear; I actually miss the "hand warmer".

BTW, I have my kitchen (sink, stove, oven, microwave) in a slide (driver side), and haven't had any issues with it. I believe that very question was asked here (or perhaps on another site), and very few if any people reported problems with kitchen slide components (water, drain, LPG lines).
  • It's good that you are looking at and thinking about these kinds of details...It shows that you have experience and are looking beyond the fluff and decor.

Water heater produces very little blow out heat if any. Furnace does but it has never been a problem for us being under the awning...

We have a rear lounge Arctic Fox 25Y and absolutely like the floor plan.
    Good luck with your search.
  • You are way over thinking this. The only appliance that really exhaust heat is the furnace. My furnace is on the awning side and is not an issue uinless you stand in front of it. Furnace is only on in the winter when I'm less likely to be outside.
Water heater is generally on electric and producing minimal exhaust heat.
When on lp water heater will exhaust a minimal, negligible amount of heat.
Noise from the water heater in gas mode is a bigger issue than exhaust.
Appliance exhaust under the awning is a non issue.
  • My mh has a passenger side kitchen slide and the WH is in the slide. Not much air comes out and what does rises quickly. The real issue is it does consume a good bit of area under the awning.
