RV for Camping, Traveling and as a Bug Out Vehicle ?

Anyone else here keeps their RV ready just in case if something happens, such as floods, earthquakes, etc.

I have a 33ft motorhome that I use for traveling, 2nd home parked at my main home, and I keep it stocked up with supplies, full of fuel, full of water, full propane and ready when the emergency ever arrives.

With all the bad weather as of late seems like a good idea, Right ?

  • Our coach is always filled with gas when we return to town from a trip, as well as propane. I don't keep the fridge on between trips, so fresh food would have to be added before a quick departure. We always have some canned goods and some clothes on board until it is winterized. In season, we could be ready to go in less then an hour. Out of season, would probably be closer to two hours. We have used it as a refuge in one power outage.

What happens in Las Vegas? :)My TT is ready to go on short notice, but Phoenix doesn’t have the weather issues that make me want to run for cover. Except the heat, when it gets too much for me I just drive a couple of hours up into the mountains to cool off. We do get the occasional dust storms and some limited flooding if we get an unusual amount of rain. But the areas affected are tiny in the overall picture. When we go to OK to visit family, though, I’m ready to move at a moment’s notice if some tornadoes come through.

Nevada is the 3rd most likely state to get earthquakes, we even had a 5.7 some years back here in Vegas but with all the quakes going on now around the world I would want to be prepared for at least this, yes weather never is very bad here, just hot..

  • There is this classic bug-out RV from Stripes.

Or you could build a custom RV like this 8x8 missile mover.

  • Our 5er is "pointing in the right direction". Be it an emergency or a quick unplanned weekend getaway.
  • Before we went full time and lived in Florida, our RV was always full and ready to go. Everything except fresh food. This was in case of hurricanes.

Now it is our home, but still ready to move on short notice.
  • Our MH is by our house and can be made ready in short order. We do have to winterize but keep extra clothes, blankets, dry goods & other necessities in it year round. We can load water, canned goods and frozen foods and be on our way quickly. The propane tank is never below 2/3rds and gas never gets below 1/2 and more than not, we fill up before we get home from a trip so it's usually much closer to full.
  • Our coach is parked next to our cottage when were there, and is always near ready to travel. In colder weather, we do winterize it, but we also keep a supply of gallon water jugs and a bin of canned foods at the ready in the cottage. We can be on the road in about 20 minutes if necessary. We haven't had to outrun any storms yet, but we have sheltered in place in the coach for 3 or 4 days following a storm while the power was out. The coach generator keeps us happy, as well as the fridge and freezer in the cottage. The coach has also served us well as living quarters while we're remodeling the cottage interior. Sometimes we live in it at the cottage for days at a time just because we feel like it.
  • Yes. I've twice used RVs during weather emergencies. Once during an ice storm when power was out and previously during a big wind event when I abandoned my house due to the danger of big trees dropping (and one of mine did but didn't hit anything).
