- cekkkExplorerThis topic has become the poster child for Leftspeak. :R Just as silly, IMHO, is responding.
Thirty years ago a friend of mine, a psychiatrist, told me, "If one believes life is futile, I can help. If one believes he's George Washington, I can't." We have a few GWs here. - DelCamperExplorerThe oil in the Bakken field and the NG counterpart are indigenous energy resources providing well paying US jobs. it can be left in the ground and not provide the jobs. Everything is a worldwide resource. Should food not be grown because it too is exported?
People have been relocating since time began for work. My grandparents fled their homeland. No work in California you go to where the work is. Work does not come to you but rather you go to it.
"ND will be destroyed by this "rape the earth" crowd just like every victim of resource exploitation in history."
Rape The Earth? My advice is move into a cave, do not build a fire and enjoy yourself. I'll turn up the thermostat with NG from fracking and drive an automobile. - tomman58Explorer

The USA (thus, it's taxpayers) own no refineries, they are privately owned and may sell their product wherever they wish. They are in no sense "US refineries" other than they happen to be located in the US.... and it's value is contributed to the supply side of the world wide supply demand equation.
The product goes into the world-wide pool and is in NO sense US gas. Any gas we in the US want must then be bought out of that pool. Thus, "US refineries" do NOTHING for energy independence or increasing US supply.... ND oil country has no unemployment, McDonald's pays $15/hour with a sign on bonus, wages are very high, and property values are spiking.
And when it goes bust (as ALL resource exploitation does, unless it's under rigid government control like Saudi Arabia, etc.) there will be widespread poverty, unemployment and general misery, beyond anything the local government can handle.People are fleeing CA and going to ND.
Good riddance. They're just plugging up the roads anyhow. Let ND have all that mess. And they WILL get the mess.ND is beautiful and will remain so.

Beautiful NoDak will remain just that. Coalmining areas from years past near Fallkirk and Washburn are incredibly restored and is now very productive farmland. Old timers say it looks better than before the mining. I suspect we will be just fine in the western 1/3 of NoDak as well. JMO
beautiful ND ??? I mean unless you like hours on end of lawn get real. The girlnext door is five miles away and if that one is ugly you need to move! LO. - FezziwigExplorerAfter the oil companies have extracted the oil they will pickup their winnings and go on to the next group of suckers to extract their resources. ND will be left behind with all the problems and no money to pay for the cleanup.
The only ND jobs anyone talks about are burger flippers and bottle washers, and I don't know one businessman who has moved from CA to ND.
The skilled workers for the oil fields are gypsies who have their homes in Idaho, Arkansas, Wyoming, etc., where they have their permanent family homes, well away from the industrial mess. They move temporarily with motorhomes or stay in "Extended Stay" motels. - The_WeekendersExplorer

Don't think so. JMO - LindsayRichardsExplorerMandating 54 mpg fleet average doesn't mean it can be done by the engineers. As far as being a done deal, nothing done by politicians is a done deal. It all depends on who is in power. If Americans do not want to drive tin cans, then they will not. Almost none of today's vehicles meet the standard for 2025, much less fleet average. Safety is also a huge factor. These mini cars (not even meeting the standards) will be flattened in a highway speed crash. It is all political as we have massive amounts of untapped fossil fuels in the US. It is all about global warming even though we haven't had any in the last decade and a half. Electricity for any EV must be made somehow. Wind and solar are a tiny fraction and electricity loses large amounts in transmission unlike fossil fuels.
- tomman58Explorer"The future fuel mileage approaching 50 mpg is crazy. "
Realize this it wasn't the EPA or Environmentalists that raised the MPG it was done with all involved participants in the industry. It is a done deal and a good thing for you and everyone else! - SRTExplorerI notice that there is a slight downward drift in gasoline prices. More stations are posting $3.25 a gallon. The rest are at $3.29.
Looks like the EPA and others may try to squash fossil fuel with a cap and trade "plan" plus increase emission standards for power generation plants. The future fuel mileage approaching 50 mpg is crazy. Between the EPA and rabid environmentalists, we'll be a 2nd tier country. - tomman58Explorer

X2 ND has zero infrastructure and the area where the oil is will be a waste land in a few years kinda like the ghost towns in Nevada. Have a good time today ND heck you can act like those on the east and west coast for a while
