- I say rebuild. However the structure and foundation should be built to spcifications that will withstand the storm that knocked it down. This to be done at additional cost to the landowner or no permit.
- BumpyroadExplorerI thought, and this was years back for property along the MO & Miss rivers, that if they built on the flood plain, that the insurance would pay them "once" to build elsewhere or if building on the original lot, no more flood insurance?
I think this is how it should be for all areas, give one shot then you are done.
years back I was looking at property on Tiki Island near Galveston. finally backed out due to flooding risk.
bumpy - LindsayRichardsExplorerWhat really seems stupid to me is to rebuild many of these houses and businesses. Living in hurricane country, I have seen whole areas wiped out and then over the years rebuilt. The government food insurance allows this. I was in High School in 1960 when Hurricane Dona wiped clean large areas of Estro Island. Those areas have been rebuilt with government money and will be wiped clean again when (not if)it happens again. Normally wealthy people live on the water and they should be buying private insurance.
- dmattExplorerWhile I'm not sure as a capt I would have set sale, I dont have all the facts. But, I do know that They set sale while Sandy was a long way south. At the time, the path of the hurricane was unknown.
- Gale_HawkinsExplorerSalt water does not make a good electrical insulator of high volts/amps.
I am taken back at number of cars left in the predicted path of Sandy in low areas that I see in photos. Sailing the tall ship into the path of the hurricane confused me too.
One headline this AM was 100 cities had never taken flooding risks seriously enough to have put up protection over the years. - LindsayRichardsExplorer16 Fisker Electric cars burn up during Hurricane Sandy. They caught fire when in contact with water. mmmmmmm

bumpy - tomman58ExplorerTesla Model S was choosen by Yahoo as the car of the year for 2013. I don't know why even after reading the article on it. For those who don't know this is an electric only car. It has a base over 50,000. It has no dealership base and is being sold on the internet.
Thought it was interesting that they are looking more and more toward the elctric car market. Time to hide and watch.
Oh ny the way lots of interest on the 2013 GM truck theard on the site.
