- Most EV charging will be at home. For myself it must be over 98%.
Public charging will have its place but we will not need a "fueling station" except on a main highway out of town. The rest can be at the distination such as work, grocery, library, amusment park, movie house etc. It is different with an EV in that you are not always looking for a fill up like a gasoline vehicle. Just need enough to get to the next stop and then home for a full charge overnight.
Gasoline is not going to dissappear anytime soon. The real advantage for the country for supporting EVs is using domestic energy. Just imagine a world where we could care less what OPEC does. The same impact will come from large and long distance transportation powered by domestic natural gas.
This is a REAL issue with a solution. You do not have to participate but try not to discourage those that do. - cekkkExplorerLet's see how this recharging thing is going to look in, what is it, 2015? A good gas station will pull its pumps and install charging stations. Now, on a busy day, they used to handle a half a dozen to a dozen cars turning over six times an hour, making a few bucks off the gas and bringing in dozens of people to their convenience store, the way they make a profit.
Look ahead three years. EVs are now, what, ten percent of the market? They now have, say, ten charging stations turning over, what, ONCE EVERY THREE HOURS? Or every half hour? Jeez, even the Twinkies are stale dating!
A few years later. San Fran is now the nation's capital, the Lefties having succeeded in getting 40 million illegals on welfare and 80% of the legals on the dole. Only EVs are allowed on the road. Having banned all effective means of electrical generation, the nations roads are now parking lots, clogged with dead batteries.
Candles emit too much pollution and are banned. GM, Government Motors, has switched production lines to Oxon breeding. Firestone is chiseling stone wheels. Ureka, Utopia at last!
P.s. The Easter Bunny, Santa? THEY'RE PRETEND!

Up in Willits California every even numbered year summer they have a Sun festival where everything is sun powered, the bandstands at the picnics, the cars, etc., everything, including the race cars at the local airport drag races, and the electric cars always outdrag the gas cars. Bring your RV or tent because there's no hotels or motels from Mendecino to Ft. Bragg, at least. You get to see all the latest equipment.
Willits is where Americas post-oil future will be determined, not Bakken, which will soon become just another blasted moonscape devoid of life and humanity.
Seems like Green is growing. Fiat now is introducing an EV. range 80 miles recharge in 1 hour. - LindsayRichardsExplorerOne are is an economic boom area due to oil with no unemployment and the other is filled with hippies who make their living illegally growing weed. I was once accosted there by a real nut who want to stop a Billion dollar tidal wave project done by the power company and government. They did stop it. The whole town seems to be filled with real nuts.

One of the EVs can recharge in 1 hour and then go another 180 miles. Charging stations are being built in Cal at those intervals. My car takes 3 to 3 1/2 hours to recharge. Fact not dreaming.
out of curiosity, how many charging hookups do they put at each station? I mean if 5-10 EVs drive in to recharge can it service them all or is there a waiting period?
bumpy
Bump I am sure this plan is in its infancy this is one designed for the Telsar by them I think. I believe the article is in Motor Trend this month (info from friend last night).
Like the manufactures of EVs have stated by 2015 the EV industry will not be a small part of today's cars anymore, Bumpyroad wrote:

I think there is typically 2 stations at the Tesla Supercharger charging points. About 5 up and operating. These are free of charge for life of the vehicle. All in CA so far so you can pretty much drive most of the state for free right now today. Nationwide network is in the plan so eventually you will be able to travel the nation for free.

bumpy - tomman58ExplorerVery interesting.
Regarding the Volt as a toad option it has 3 different modes to drive the car, normal, sport and mountain. I've never tried the mountain mode as we don't have any in Michigan to speak of. Bottom line they would do well in any national park I've been to.
As for the rant about being ribbed or somehow demeaning for driving an EV is plain silly and ignorant as to what these things are. I think coming into the CG (as we do several times ) late at night would be a friendlier experience for our fellows in an EV as they are really quite as opposed to our diesel!

Then me and a buddy who had the 450, a good but ugly booger, went out and bought a pair of 750s. Ahh, those were the days! Wonder how many miles we got out of a gallon of that $.25 gas?
