First, an EV charging station has been installed at a remote location of Yellowstone NP and in one of the most air-polluted parks, Great Smoky Mountain NP as reported by Melissa Hincha-Ownby of the Mother Nature Network."
Looks like the EV is starting to make an impact on toads! Hey why not you charge up and you're good to go for the day! What a concept! The cost is likely no problem as if you can do a 250K MH what's a toad any ways?
There is an EV charging station in Yosemite Valley also. - LindsayRichardsExplorerEV's just exchange the tailpipe for the smokestack. From oil to gas or coal. With 2.8% of electricity being generated by wind and solar, there is no other conclusion. With 8 hours to charge, what do you do at that remote location while you wait and how do you get back if it is already in use when you get there. We went to Yellowstone last summer and saw none. That remote location must have a power line to have a charger. Power lines kinda spoil the beauty in a national park.

Most of trip at 11.2 mpg.
this confirms cekkk's claim on head winds a difference of 4 mpg from yesterday til today. $0 mph headwind the other day.
Williams Az 4.39 for diesel, NM 3.99 NV 4.09 - LindsayRichardsExplorerInteresting article about natural what is happening with natural gas being used as a transportation fuel.
Click Here - DelCamperExplorerActually the oil industry paid 35 billion in 2009 alone with Exxon Mobil paying 59 billion over the years 2005-2010.
"Big Oil" has a pre tax profit of 8%. Their capital outlays are huge. I put in almost 30 years in an oil refinery. The wages for the workers are 1st rate. The money they spend on both environmental upgrades and efficiency are so large that I witnessed more money put in both of them than the cost of the recently purchased refinery. In the case of refining US refineries are some of the most efficient in the world so much so that we have been exporting gasoline and fuel oil. - cekkkExplorerMy truck doesn't have a readout for mileage, etc., but DW's does and several prior vehicles did. I often calculated mileage separately and have found the readout number is a few tenths higher than miles/gallons method. This is true when I stop filling when the pump shuts down by itself, not just when I top it off. Not sure just what this reflects. But since speedometer and odometers are accurate checked against pole mounted radars and GPSs, I guess the readout is probably pretty darn close.
- tomman58Explorer"Of course city driving reduces mileage a lot, but we tend to talk about pulling trailers on this website. Most city driving while towing is on freeways passing through, so even then mileage isn't too negatively affected. And I admit, if one were to use up a tankful of fuel driving around Manhattan all day pulling his rig, wind resistance would, for all practical purposes, not be a factor and mileage would suck. But since that's apples and oranges, I stand by my statement."
You are quite right that the majority of times wind is not our friend while towing. It does make a world of difference when it is a headwind. Yesterday in TX it was 35MPH when we hit Albuquerque NM it was only 10mph. Trucks MPG jumped dramatically. I always watch the mpg pretty easy on modern TV,cars etc. beats using the calc and is quite accurate when checked.
States with mostly plains (good name) seen the worst for winds as there is little to slow them.
We notice bad Mpg when Garmin sends us through a part of a city to get to another freeway. Stop and go can be very bad also.
278 gals fuel this trip so far. - LindsayRichardsExplorerUnfortunately they use a lot of the gas taxes for things like rapid transit that few ride, suburban buses that few ride, bike paths, and sweetheart deals for politicians. I feel sure that it is going to be going up.
- SRTExplorerYup,it looks like feelers are out to increase the federal gasoline/diesel taxes. Seems the gasoline tax has been the same for over 20 years and certain politicians feel the need for more $$.
Gasoline prices around here seem to be stabilizing at $3.29. Diesel is around $3.99.
