RV on anniversaries?

This year is our 40th and we are going in our camper to Sierra City. Been going there for many years.

It's a no win situation. My wife is more concerned about how many days before our anniversary or her birthday that I buy the card, so that she knows that I didn't wait until the last minute. :S It has to be a Hallmark card too! Crossing out the words American Greetings on the back doesn't cut it, even after 38 years.

We always discuss what were going to do. She likes cruises, but we bought our new motor home to put some miles on it during retirement. We try to mix it up with a cruise every other year.

Don't forget the steak, lobster, good wine. You do all the work while she watches steel magnolias..win win

Nothing wrong wih RVing on your anniversary. However, OP, your bride is telling you what she wants, and it's not another RV trip to a place you've already been. For your 35th anniversary, it's the wrong idea.

Who's doing the hammering? If it's the wife I'd reluctantly listen. Nothing wrong with a nice week on a fairly remote Caribbean island. We can afford it very often but it sure is nice for a special vacation.

Wife needs to be happy. Perhaps mix and road trip to new to you port of debarkation and then a cruise?

Or, just fly to Italy! 3 days in Rome and then pick a seaside resort area, Cinque Terra (3 adjacent seaside towns) or Positano? Or whatever country your wife always wanted to visit. I've seen ads for overseas cruises as well though I don't have any experience.

Actually consider something like that if you have the funds. We prefer camping by far as normal vacation (not yet retired) but there are grand trips out there worth taking. What's your planning timeline?

We have been on RV trips on anniversary, her birthday (and mine) and Valentine's day. She enjoys it, BUT... almost always wants a place for a "nice dinner". So, we usually make sure we're scheduled near someplace to eat that she likes. But, if we'll be outside of "civilization" I just make sure I have a nice steak and some salad, etc for dinner. :)

We are just heading back with the RV from spending our 28th anniversary in Nashville. It was a mutual decision, and we had a great time. Nothing wrong with it, as long as you are both on the same page. Happy Anniversary, and enjoy the time, regardless of what you do!

A few years ago when we retired, apart from simply acknowledging we agreed to forego celebrating anniversaries and our birthdays. It takes the pressure off both of us, after being married 41 years just going out for dinner is what we enjoy.

This has worked well for us too. Will be 45 years in 4 more days (May 9th).
