RVQ question

We have and use our original RVQ, (yes, we use it, no, it doesn't burn the side of the rig, and it isn't under the awning) BUT, it has never really had a lot of "power" either. I know that there is a regulator on the grill itself, and the onboard line it uses is from the regulated onboard propane tank. Has anyone used one with grill side regulator taken off? Just wondering. I would like to get the weber Q but don't want to spend $180.00 on a grill right now

Got pic and/or how you did the mod?
  • I successfully used the RVQ for years. But as mentioned I'd be concerned about increasing the due to its proximity to the RV.
As mentioned there are grills that get hotter but they do not have the same convenience factor of the RVQ.
You will have to decide which you prefer. Increasing the BTU's of the RVQ come with significant risk

One thing to think about: the BTUs for that grill could be intentionally limited for safe use when attached to the RV. If you modify it for higher heat output (more BTUs) be careful of potential bad outcomes if you use it attached to the brackets on your RV.

I had considered that... I'm hoping that maybe some of burner holes may be getting rusted over, I will make it another winter project to take it all apart and clean it good for next spring. Right now, it's time for getting everything ready for winter... Snowblower, snow shovel, firewood, etc...etc... Winterize the RV, oil changes, ugh....the list goes on

I tore down the one we got with our trailer and made a nice outside side table out of it that slips onto the side of the trailer... Can sit my outside HDTV on it...

We use the COLEMAN ROAD TRIP with all of the accessories that come with it... We still use the small propane canister with our setup as we need the canisters anyway for other uses...

    Works out great for us...

  • There is no substitute for heavy duty quality products. Bought a Q100 a couple of years ago. Was concerned that the low BTUs would not cook well. Turns out my concerns were unfounded. The cast grate when hot sears steaks to perfection easily. The key is letting it get hot. Did buy onenof those fancy SS grills from CW several years ago. One trip and realized what a mistake that was. After several flame outs for no reason and total failure within three weeks, took it back with no regrets.
  • You are correct in the power (BTU's). It just does not get enough heat. They are fine for burgers and hot dogs. The overall makeup of the thin metal is also another issue. We have the Weber Q-220 and it the finest grill in the world! We got it as a retirement gift form DH's company, but would pay to get another if we had to! We have had to replace the burner and the regulator, but we use it heavily as full timers and it is now almost 10 years old. With the grill, stand, cover and tank it will be about $300. A low price complement to a RV!
