Saving sites - opinions

agreed. every govt campground we've been in has a post in front with a clip on it. if there's a chair in the drive or some other evidence that the site is taken and there's a current receipt on the post then we'd pass it by. otherwise it's a trip to the check-in desk to let the ranger be the bad guy.

The CGs that I go to... you pay for your spot, you get a ticket to put on the tower. It's a pretty good system. If you come in when the office is closed, the tower ticket is waiting for you. If you have some mega-rig, and you need a 60ft, pull-thru with 50 amps-better stick to the 'resorts'. You just might find that an undeserving up-start with a family and a tent, had the nerve to take 'your' spot.

I see a lot of ego posted here. hope it's just macho talk.

These same people complaining about small trailers taking big sites are the same ones that respond to the posts here that ask "If I buy a big rig will I have trouble getting a site?" by saying "We never have a problem".

I have a 36 foot MH and a Wrangler toad. I may be in the minority, but I AGREE with everything you said. If a person does not make a reservation or get to the campground early, then they have to be thankful for any sight that is vacant. If not, I suggest they move on down the road.

I drive a big rig and agree with you wholeheartedly......Javi1, who made the rude comment, is IMO the type of RVer that gives all the big fig folks a bad name......That person is not as common as many think, but they run their mouth the most, so it seems like they are more numerous.....:s

And people wonder why I don't do state and govt parks.

IN NY state parks you must occupy the site first nite, not just your gear,but a warm living body. After that you may leave it unoccupied.
I will take any open site I like with my small trailer. The size of your unit fails to impress me. If you want a big spot reserve or get there before me.

on holiday weekends the state parks that we frequent in Illinois frown upon early birds...those who bring the RV out on tue or wed, park it on the spot (and pay the fees for those days) without setting anything up and then leave until fri afternoon. they've paid for the site but they're not occupying it. the state park "rangers" try to discourage that but they are so short staffed...volunteers and paid staff...that it's nearly impossible to catch everyone doing that. paying for a site, setting up and then leaving for the day is different than doing what I've described. it's selfish behavior.
