Sewer Hose Supports

I read all the posts. ya, right. Those expandable supports look great and qualify for stupid AZ law until you pull the valves open. Then the hose fills and becomes a problem. The best I have seen is 4" dia pipe in 4' lengths that actually support the hose. Didn't see them at Quartzsite this year. I am going to make my own this year. They are the best for sloping the sewer hose. As far as AZ. Some kook that has never RVd came up with a rule that is wacko and doesn't work very well. Keep it off the ground. Ya, right. How about RV parks putting sewer connections in reasonable areas that are down hill from my RV. JMHO.

I use support to angle the hose toward the sewer hookup. I don't want it laying on the ground and having a rise at the end. STUFF flows DOWN hill. It does NOT flow UP very well. I like it to have a smooth unobstructed entry into the sewer pipe.

I use the collapsing sewer slikey, and lay pvc pipe in it to keep the hose from dipping.

Sewer hose supports at the campsite help to protect the hose from rocks, goat heads, and other things that might puncture it. Most dump stations are concrete or blacktop and sloped well so support is not needed unless you find laying the hose on a possibly unclean spot a problem. I use chunks of gutter at the campsite and nothing at the dump stations.

Usually the dump station opening is at ground level and not raised 3-12 inches! I use it at the site to keep the hose from completely filling with water before it flows into the sewer connection.

If I'm just dumping and running, then there's no need for the hose support. If we're staying for more than a few days, I'll usually set up the support so I can create a trap loop at the dump port and leave the grey tank valve open until the black tank is about 2/3's full. At that point, the grey tank gets closed so it will accumulate flush and rinse water to use when dumping the black tank. The trap loop keeps the sewer gasses and flies out of the grey tank.

I have 3 reasons: 1) Provide positive drainage without any liquid laying in the slinky because our galley tank is small and we drain several times while at site, and longer than 3 day staff we're dumping the grey tank too. 2) Comply with state, local, or CG requirements. 3) Keep it out of the mud.

I use a couple of lengths of gutter that I keep in my rear pass thru. I ramp them down to the sewer inlet with extra wheel chocks and a couple of bricks that I keep in the trailer. I also have the gutter connectors on both ends of one section and only on one end of the other to provide some extra stiffness to the gutter sections. Also that allows the gutter end w/o the connector to fit inside the other section for a continuous gutter length of close to 16'.

If I am hooked up with the gray tanks open I use the support, otherwise I don't bother.

I have experienced 3 situations where I needed them (but I use them all the time anyway).

1. In Arizona it's mandated that you must keep the hose off the ground. I have read that some counties or cities also require it.

2. Had a strange situation where my site was level but the sewer hookup was behind me and uphill somewhat (but below the drain exit point of my 5er). In order for gravity to work, I needed hose supports otherwise the hose would have run uphill if it had to lay on the ground.

3. One time the dump connection was on an island next to me with a cement curb surrounding it. I needed the supports so that my hose didn't have to go up and over the curb.

I like and use the supports every time. Keeps the hose out of the mud, etc.

the dumping station is usually located relatively lower than the RV so the waste naturally flows downhill. not always, in fact that's rarely the case at a campsite. plus keep the hose off of the ground at the campsite will prolong its life. finally, if everyone took the time to set up hose supports at the dump station the line would stretch into tomorrow.
