Sticky for Trouble shooting manuals

I was thinking that while they would never replace the voice of experience the Mfg's trouble shooting guides are pretty helpful. How would it be if the Admin agrees, to open one where we could post DOCX, PDF or what ever copies of the guides.

I know some dooms dayers will yell, Copy write infringement, but, I don't think so. They are published for public use so not a valid argument. If you disagree, please PM me, don't highjack the thread.

I can think of two guides that would be helpful almost weekly, Kwikee Steps and Winegard antennas.

What are your thoughts?

  • We may never get file sharing
    But maybe a thread sticky
Where we could post the links to the documents
The link for each one would need a correct description
    Example Kwikee 1990-200

Include year or model numbers in link description

Or a page link to a whole list from one mfg

Chris Bryant already has quite a few manuals hosted on his website
The link gets posted now and again when members are seeking info

Besides the (rather obvious) copyright considerations, this forum doesn't have any sort of file hosting feature at all. I suspect adding one would be rather more than a trivial amount of work.

I do agree a topic with links could be most useful. Many manufacturers, at least some of the nicer ones to DIYers, helpfully post documentation for their obsolete products on their own web sites.
  • As said, links would be the better way to go. Posting the manufacturers copyrighted material directly could be problematic.
  • I think it's a good idea, either way. It may make finding the correct manual easier.

But, maybe the forum admin will not agree because of possible Copyright violations?
  • I would think posting links to on-line manuals would be a better approach. A Google search can turn up a manual for most any thing now, free as often as not. No worries then about copy right. Some manuals are very long and would not lend themselves to posting all that in document form. If they are not free on line then they probably would not permit someone posting them any way.
