super glide capture plate not working

Hi I recently bought a super glide hitch but I have an issue with the capture plate. My pin box looking at it from the front is not totally flat, it has a small curvature to the base. So when I put my capture plate on it doesn't sit tight against pin box bottom. If I try to hitch it hits something and doesn't hitch. Has anyone had a similar issue? Not sure what to do, don't really want to change my pin box.
Thanks for your time guys.

  • I have this same hitch and welding your "key" directly on to the pin box would be a mistake. If you did this, that pin box could only be used with a pullrite hitch. The resale factor would diminish.

When you hook up the weight of the pin box doesn't make every thing line up?
  • I have herd of som having the plate welded instead of bolting, but as pointed out by others not sure it is a great idear.
    Frank.
  • On the chance that you'd have to tow someone else's 5th wheel or they'd have to tow yours, the transfer or deletion of that capture plate would be necessary. Happened to me.
  • Not sure of what your trying to do but is it going to be safe. Your towing a lot of weight there. Most RV sales will have pin box that were taken off to put a better one as consumers want. Maybe you can find a take off at a reasonable price.
  • Ya I contacted pull rite and they are pretty quick at replying to emails. I do have the correct plate but as said it is not sitting flush, they gave me the option of buying a plate that is more "forgiving" but I have another idea, let me know what you guys think.
I would like to cut out the part on the plate which I need to lock the pin box to the hitch and weld it in place on my pin box. Not sure how clear that came out. But that way, I don't have to spend anymore money, I don't have to wait for shipping time, I don't have to worry about the plate slipping down and causing grief while camping...
If anyone thinks this is a bad idea please let me know
    Thanks again
  • You're going to have to call PullRite and maybe send them some photos. It sounds to me that the bottom of your pin box has been damaged, causing the capture plate not to sit flat/flush with the pin box, and the recessed portion of the pin cannot slip into the hitch jaws because of the large gap between the pin box and plate.
  • Is it the right plate for your pin box? Go to Pullrite's web page for fit chart or call their techs, they are very helpful
