TKR ???????

Just had one knee done, other one in Dec. What kind of limitations can I expect to have such as kneeling, climbing, etc. I like to do as much work on my MH as I can and was wondering how much this will slow me down. Special kneepads? I've read that there are some that inflate but haven't found them yet.

Thanks
DICK

Had left knee replaced 19 June. Now it is pretty good shape and getting better, maybe. It pops two to four times each movement. I don't think that is good and it cause swelling ,of outside of leg. Lady in rehab with me had both knees done the same day. /She said it hurt but she was up running circles around me. Her pain level was less too. Mine hurt like hell for a long two of three weeks and gradually got better. I was on some powerful pain killers. They gave me a spinal block whe, without, I don't think I could have stood it. Exercising the first day. Because of the spinal block not much movement but plenty of other pains. Too about five seeks to approach full range, of motion. It still hurts at times and it clicks and pops and hurts and swells. They told me six months to a year to recovery. I hope they don't have to re do the surgergy because it is definately wrong size parts.

Have you gne back to the surgeon and asked why the knee is popping?

Also women tend to recover faster than men on average so it is not surprising she is ahead of you.
BUT it is not how fast but how well you recover that is important.

GET BACK AND ASK MD WHAT IS GOING ON. Hardware could have come loose. You have a right to an answer and DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT IS NOT AN ANSWER

  • I also found out that my neighbor is a manager for the manufacturing company that produces the hardware for companies to market to the medical field.

He is convinced he made my device and has an investment in me. Shoulder cost $34K.

Had total right shoulder replacement 2 years ago and had experienced muscle and tendon pain on a regular basis and within the last few months, reduced range of motion.

Crazy me....I thought that after PT and the first year, things would be going back to normal. Hah....I learned the hard way that finding ways to keep range of motion was extremely important even this far out.

WOW You brought back memories. I once worked with an MD who helped develop the first shoulder replacement hardware. Dr Brenner was his name and the shoulder was named after him. Newer models have replaced his original but I still remember the time and the man. Was over 30 years ago
    Thanks

  • I had both done on the same day.always did 1 rep more than put asked for. Back to work in 3 months. Walk better than I did when born. I do have discomfort kneeling on the ground. Bought 2 of those foam seat cushions for stadium use. They work great.
  • pt is a nessectry, as the followup.its like two peaces of wood, they HAVETO BE WORN BACK IN.that in it self is a bit of pain, but don't forget this, that pain will stop, took me a year to get any where close to normal.pends on how much u put in to it.now its all happy-camping

    I was a licensed professional and I worked with orthopedic MD's for many years and the one thing that stood out above all others was;
Those that did the physical therapy both at the therapists and at home fared very well. I saw many people come in and just do the therapy in the office. Those people did not do as well.
Remember you are free to choose a therapist and if the one you are dealing with is not working with you CHANGE THERAPISTS. My example is as follows. My wife has spinal cord injury and the first 2 therapists we went to were only interested in stopping further deterioration. They were recommended by her surgeon. That was not acceptable to us so we started our search for a better therapist. After trying out 4 - 5 others we found a therapist who was familiar with m wife's particular problem. She treated the problem aggressively and my wife actually gained ground. The surgeon is important to get you started in the right direction the therapist can enhance the MD's work or screw it up. BE VIGILANT

Most that did the therapy and had a good therapist recovered to where they were actually more physically able to do things than they were before the surgery. So if you were able to do it before you should be able after recovery to do it better. Recovery should be complete by next April - May.
    You will do fantastic.
