- mowermechExplorerI am frequently reminded how wonderful it is that we found our current place!
We are in a small housing development (4 houses, 6 if you count the ones on the main road), on a private lane. No CCRs to speak of, no HOA, no Code enforcement, just nothing to give us grief over where we park our "stuff". Our neighbor often has a flatbed or horse trailer parked in the cul-de-sac for long periods. Nobody cares. But then, he and I are the only ones affected by it. He has also had a tractor in the process of being rebuilt parked in his driveway for about 5 years. No problem. My amateur radio station antennas don't give the neighbors any heartburn. My motorhome sits beside the house all winter, and in the driveway all summer. I can target shoot in my back yard. My neighbor sights in his hunting rifle in his back yard, and shoots at geese regularly during the season. My and my neighbors' trash cans stay beside the lane all the time. It is just more convenient that way.
Yes, when I read about the problems other people have, I realize how lucky we are! - korbeExplorerI went to publics works and asked for an encroachment permit. put it on the windshield and no problems.
- ncrowleyExplorer IIMy town only allows parking on the street for 72 hours. This applies to any vehicle or trailer.
- Cloud_DancerExplorer III don't like vehicles parked on streets, specially big ones. I don't like boats and trailers parked in the driveway. I don't like trash cans left in the front yards.
I never did, so no need to blame it on age. - MinnCamperExplorerWe have it too. No over night parking and the tow vehicle must be hooked to it. Pour a slab next to the house and park it.

If one of my neighbors parked their RV on the street year round I'd be complaining. It's bad enough with the cars on the street now let alone add all the RV's that are owned on the street. I wouldn't even consider leaving my RV on the street for more than a day or two. That's a city street not a parking lot. It's well past time you need to consider a parking spot that isn't public right-of-way. You're in the wrong on this one.
Couldn't agree more. I'm annoyed enough as it is that in our suburban city of 160,000 city council in their "infinite wisdom" has deemed it inappropriate for me to park my trailer on my own driveway from Nov 1 to Apr 30 but I can park it from May 1 to Oct 31?? Apparently it's ugly during those 6 winter months but perfectly fine the other 6 :h ... I guess that's "logic" for you! No way though would I expect to park it on the street, for all the reasons offered by others ... and 72 hrs?!! ... that's funny, here we can only park any vehicle a maximum of 5 hrs continuously, having only been changed a short while ago from just 3 hrs. 72 hrs?!! ... wow! :W - wing_zealotExplorerIf one of my neighbors parked their RV on the street year round I'd be complaining. - fla-gypsyExplorerI live in a metro area of approx 1 million, RV's of any kind parked on a street would be a nightmare. Now on the other side of this, if you live in an area that has the correct zoning and no HOA in this same metro area you can park almost anything you like on your property. I have been parking my RV's in my yard since 1992. 1.5 acres in a semi rural area allows for a lot of parking.

Small town......
Then get folks together and go to town council meetings and let town council know that 'ordinance' is not needed..that is IF you have enough like minded folks.
I currently live in small rural town......12000 and town council meetings are always full. Folks care about what goes on and aren't shy about letting council understand how they feel.
And it works........council listens.
+1 to Old Biscuit.
Start going to the town meetings. Find out what is going on. Especially see if you can get your neighbors to support you. Most town meetings I've been to, if the immediate neighbors are okay with something, the town hall will usually allow it. And... if your neighbors are hesitant to support you, then you might be seeing the problem... people in town actually don't want to see your camper on the street.
Wouldn't surprise me if someone new moved to town and wanted to get "involved" in town business now that they lived there... which isn't so bad, except they usually say something like "Well, where I used to live, they did this...". My response is "Then why'd you move here??".
I told my wife awhile ago I thought I was becoming one of our town's old curmudgeons... she said it already happened awhile ago.... lol! - OutdoorPhotograExplorerThere is a big difference in parked on your property versus on the street. When I lived in Central CA, the RV ownership was so high that you had at least 3-4 per street in a subdivision with an RV by the side of the house or in the back. When you live less than 100 miles from 3 national parks plus the Central Coast of CA, it's a natural demographic. I put in paved parking parking with a 30 amp breaker behind the fence on the side of my house and it was a huge competitive advantage when selling. I think the official rule was 72 hours on the street.
Now, parked on the street would have been a different matter. I'm a live and let live sort of guy but even the number of cars and work trucks that were being parked in the street could make driving difficult when larger vehicles were on each side. It didn't look great either. Still don't think I would ban cars but I support no RVs on street. Not many streets would be wide enough.
