- RambleOnNWExplorer IIA lot of grossly misinformed people here. I take it as a sad sign of the lack of science education in the United States.
I see someone mention over 4.5 billion years bla, bla, bla. Over that 4.5 billion years the Earth has gone through a lot of changes.
- No oxygen to speak of for the first 1 billion years until stromatolites formed and produced enough oxygen to oxidize all the iron in the ocean. Then the great oxygenation event occurred as the stromatolites continued to produce oxygen. That is what produced the oxygen in the atmosphere.
- There were no continents in the early earth and no oceans. Just a hot lava ball. I'll leave it as an exercise to the reader to research how continents and the oceans formed.
- Due to continental drift and subduction zones all ocean floor gets formed and subducted every 200 million years. 200 million years ago all continents were part of one super-continent, Pangea. Of course the interior of that continent was dry and desert.
The continents have only been in their present configuration about 50 million years.
Talking about 4.5 billion years of change is ridiculous when the last 50 million are the most relevant.
Scientists know for a fact that CO2 levels have not been this high, over 400 ppm, for all the 800,000 years of ice core samples that are available,
Here's a good read, about the rift zone that opened in mid-US but stopped:
http://www.geo.msu.edu/extra/geogmich/rift_zone.html - dodge_guyExplorer IIWell at least you guys are finally understanding it. For a minute there I thought you were really thinking that humans and their cars were warming the earth 100,000 years ago! Whewww.
- Boon_DockerExplorer IIINo, it's just all hearsay and we all know it is just a cash grab by the powers to be. So I will just let it go at that.

So the earth is 4.5 billion years old and you are confident that the past couple decades is "extremely faster" than any other period? - Boon_DockerExplorer IIIOh well, some misinformed people are convinced that this climate change thing is just a cash grab, so be it.
- lbrjetExplorerIt is interesting that the U.S. is now so interested in GW after most of our polluting factories were outsourced to China or elsewhere. I also find it laughable that the elite flying around on their private (polluting) jets are some of the biggest proponents of 'teaching' us about the GW threat, when they themselves ARE the threat.
- travelnutzExplorer IIBoon Docker,
Scientists can only compare climate records since they were recorded which is much less than a very fast blink of an eye in time of a 100 year lifetime compared to the known actual core samples of the Earth taken and intricately and accurately indepth analyzed for accuracy. Hard facts Dude, not speculation for financial rewards!
However, those thousands upon thousands of core samples cover millions of years Earth and climate activity per inch and never show a short term change and even if they had, when during those millions of years did a quick change occur? Were you here even 5,000 yeras ago to have a hint of what the Earth and climate was like then? I didn't think so!
It likely is you and some others with your heads deep down in the sand whether it's in the cold northern latitudes or in the very hot desert. Enjoy your very brief stay being alive on this rolling ball and remember that death is really long, as in FOREVER! Then you can be a real fossil instead of just a fozzel if you are lucky!
Speculation doesn't make anything true or actual but sure can garner lots of money from dismal, uninformed, or tell me what I want to hear, humans! Even dogs and cats are smarter than to be taken in by misled BS for either money or other financial rewards. "A sucker is born every day!" So well said! - slickest1ExplorerWhen Ostriches don't stick their head in the sand anymore because it is too hot, I will become a believer.
The leaders of the world probably don't believe this stuff themselves but it creates a good scenario for extra taxation. For the numbers they present for decline in CO2 by 2030 and the amount of carbon tax money they will have collected it pretty much proves how insignificant mans cause of climate change really is.
Follow the money!! - garyhauptExplorerDeny...believe...looking for answers. I am supposing that those are three categories. Presumably there is proof enough for some but not all...and those that want to disagree, will. There is no convincing some people that the earth really is flat.
I for one do accept..and it is not GW..is it Global Climate Change...exists as a result of mans interference. No do question of cycles, there just wasn't the industrial poisons being pumped or rising historically, that there are this time around. Ultimately, what is at stake is survival. And some really do not care because they won't be around when it gets ugly. I know I won't be, but I do worry about my grandkids.
I have a theory...I would bet that the actual danger has been presented to major leaders from US, Chine, Russia, UK and they know the truth. If this were accurate..what would happen if they told their respective people that truth? Panic. The push to shift to a cleaner world has become massive..such as China's new solar drive. The cost to change direction? Unimaginable. The need to do that, equally so.
Deny all you wish. Like the ostrich with it's head in the sand....carry on.
