- fj12ryderExplorer IIIWell, I'm just going to cherry pick a ridiculous statement out of that diatribe: " I admire science, but it is wrong far more than it's right." Okaaaay. :)
- ExxWhyExplorerThat's a lot of water for California, and not so much around the great lakes. As has been pointed out earlier, it's a proverbial drop in the bucket around here.
Regarding climate science....
1) Funny how the tolerant and inclusive ones start right out with insults and name calling by saying I am a "science denier". Then proceed to saying I am the one throwing the barbs. Since when does having a differing view on a science topic suddenly equate to a denial of science. In science, that's called a debate. YES, there is still a debate on the science!
2) NOAA is cooking the books on the numbers. I don't believe for a moment that 2016 was one of the hottest years ever. It is according to their numbers, yet if you take away all the "smoothing" of temperatures, it goes back to being a very average year. They also like to "smooth" out the warmer periods in the last century which makes the current "smooth" years seem all the more warm. Huh....
3) The sea level has gone up 18 cm in the last century. If you apply the very precise climate models that are predicting gloom and doom, it should have gone up by 100cm or more. Huh.....
4) Population is high, perhaps too high. Obviously the fault of those darn Americans using so much energy that we feed so many people. Back in the good old days before we were such energy hogs, population stayed low by starvation. Better park the tractor Martha, look what horrible things we are doing.
5) Why does the IPCC need to "hide the decline"??? Huh.....
6) Even if I were to believe all the gloom and doom theories, NONE of the proposals coming out of Paris or wherever actually accomplish anything aside from taking money from me and giving it to someone else. In order to change the human caused CO2 rise, there is only one way to do it. Most of the world population needs to disappear along with billions of animals grown to feed those billions of missing people. Then those that are left need to sit around and do nothing that emits CO2. (What about breathing? No, sorry can't do that, too much CO2 being emitted.)
7) Imagine all the hand wringing there would have been during the end of the last ice age when all those glaciers were melting and sea levels were rising by 400 feet. The world undoubtedly is coming to an end! Oh wait, it didn't.
8) I have to doubt big oil or Detroit had anything to do with less public transportation. I personally hate public transportation and avoid it in every way possible. Thus, better alternatives have sprung up and are used. Market forces.
9) I walked to school back in the day, whatever happened to that?
10) Speaking of back in the day, when I was a kid we were heading for a new ice age. Guess that theory was wrong, but this new theory is definitely right. I admire science, but it is wrong far more than it's right. I feel like we as humans understand our world about as well as a 2 year old on an aircraft carrier understands how everything on the ship works. Might get there someday, but for the time being we are just drifting along.
11) Climate is not stable, has been changing since there was enough atmosphere to have a climate. It will continue to change. The key is to adapt to it. At our current level of technology, adapting is the only thing we can do. We CAN"T change the climate in any controllable and appreciable way for a large variety of reasons. Some day, perhaps we can control the weather (and climate), but not today nor tomorrow nor the next day.
12) Something else WILL come along to replace our CO2 generating ways. Probably sooner rather than later. I'm all for working to find those better ways. When it comes, it won't be because of a green agenda, it will be because the new technology works better and is cheaper to use. I do think electric cars are the (near) future and I do think the energy to run them will also be cheaply, reliably, and cleanly be generated. It will come when the market says it's better for the user.
Follow the money, it always tells the tale. Some people want to take a LOT of money in the name of climate change. I say it's a scam. - blofgrenExplorerI was in Anaheim on a Disneyland vacation last Friday when the storm hit. We live on the West coast of BC where it rains A LOT, but we were shocked how hard it rained in California! We were on our way out for dinner and it was raining so hard that we could not see even with the wipers on high. There was flooding everywhere and pieces of palm trees flying through the air from the wind. We ended up turning back and going back to our hotel because it just wasn't wise to be out in those conditions. As much as the rain is very good for the area, it was too much too quickly.
- slickest1ExplorerMother nature herself is alot to blame for all our ills. One volcanic eruption can pollute more in one hour than many big cities of the world combined.
A mention of California flooding. That is not a new thing, every time there is a big rain storm going through there are mud slides and flooding there. I feel for the people that are there and the struggle they face.
If climate change promoters would go after big oil and the auto industry instead of trying to change the little guy then it would make more sense.
We all know how successful going after big oil will be. In the mean time we will pay our carbon tax and make someone feel better but nothing will change. - pnicholsExplorer II

And therefore, you have a fuel guzzling CO2 E450 truck chassis with a 324V Spirit RV model. Sure released a lot of CO2 making your RV too, didn't it? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! You win! I see, it's OK for you but NOT others of course! The norm almost always seen for the tree huggers and GW 2 faced and just showing their true colors! I rest my case, your Honor!
Hmmmm .... I'll respond using some of the alphabet:
A) If the world continuously had no more than around 1/7 th of it's current population then maybe everyone everywhere could use E450 V10's for recreation purposes.
B) We've done our part for a better future on the planet - we stopped at two kids, and one of them stopped at two kids, and the other one stopped at no kids.
C) Whatever happened to school buses taking kids to/from school instead of personal SUVs and Crossovers?
D) Whatever happend to one-vehicle families? We functioned that way for several years after we had our two kids.
E) Whatever happened to the large city/town public transportation systems that were eliminated after Big Oil and Big Detroit colluted together to force us as much as possible into carbon based personal transportation?
F) We get our water from a well and a spring that nearly dry up every August, so we'ver never had a lawn to speak of and rarely can wash our vehicles.
G) Our newest vehicle is 2005, so we do not participate nearly as much in the constant consumption and churning of the world's consumables as we could if we wanted.
H) We eat few beef products anymore, which I believe has something to do with reducing pollution of the planet.
I) Most lights in our home are LED.
J) We rarely eat out.
K) Etc.
I don't rest my case and I hope many other like-minded folks don't either ... this trial is unfortunately going to take many years. :) - travelnutzExplorer IIwestend, do you deny or not even know that oil comes right out of the ground? Even 5 year olds know this!
AND NO, I do not pour my drain oil on the ground as I do not change my vehicle's oil myself --- but it's still right where it came from!!! - travelnutzExplorer III find it humorous and disgusting that a recent post is all concerned about possible water levels rising but not a word about earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, people starving because of lack of food, no work to be able to have an income for shelter, and on and on. Just another example of a one track mind. People who build or live in suspect areas are almost always the cause of their own disaster issues. If they didn't live there, it's also funny that these happenings wouldn't even affect them and there wouldn't even be a big enough story to publish but they chose to and reaped the rewards!
Yup, you have convinced me beyond a doubt that increased CO2 is the cause of everything bad that happens or will happen, NOT! - FizzExplorerHow true.
Whenever I have this discussion in person face to face I tell them I'll listen if they give up their car and tear up their drivers licence.
End of discussion every time! - westendExplorer

Says the one that sees no problem in dumping drain oil on the ground since that's where oil came from. Yeah, I didn't forget about that. :R
