- toedtoesExplorer IIIIf you think it, the thieves have been there... in mattresses, toilet tanks, taped to inside of drawer spaces - have all been done before and the thieves have find them every time.
Black tank is good because no one wants to stick their hands in someone else's c*ap. They'll know it's there, but they'll leave saying "oh No! I ain't stickin' my hands in that! Let'em keep it!"
I keep mine in my left shoe. That leg's a little shorter anyway, so it prevents back aches too. - HackerAceExplorerRight beside the empty gun case :)
- fj12ryderExplorer IIIMoney? What money? If you have an RV and money, you're doing something wrong. :)
- Second_ChanceExplorer IIAs full-timers, we don't carry more than a few dollars in cash (mostly quarters for laundry). I'm more concerned about fire and important papers (passports, wills, birth certificates, etc.). We have a fire safe in the RV for those items.
Rob - FULLTIMEWANABEExplorerWe carry enough cash to cover a couple of tanks of gas fills, "just in case" for whatever reason our cards wouldn't work. Also it's a lot cheaper to change up a lot of dollars at the right exchange rate for Canadians than to try doing it in dribs and drabs = hence carrying more cash than most might.
We split it up into 5 to 7 sets and hide throughout the RV in various locations from washing machines, to velcro throw pillows, to teabag holder to magnetic holders etc. We also have a dummy used wallet left in easy eyesight with out of date/blocked old credit cards, fake license, and other bits in plus about $22 including some change, so easy for them to take and hopefully leave with less damage.
Yes, we have found some of our money hidden a couple or more years later in places we'd forgotten we'd put it in before (LOL). Hubby say's when I find that "safe place" it'll be like Christmas as a child again on what will be there! - coolmom42Explorer IIDon't carry more than $300-500 cash, divided between 2 people and the tow vehicle. Part of that is a stash of $1 bills, for NFS campgrounds with deposit slots for campsite fees, and a few rolls of quarters for the laundromat.
We also carry a total of 4 credit cards, divided between 2 people and the tow vehicle.
I also keep my photography gear in the tow vehicle when not in use, covered up in an inconspicuous bag.
My thinking is that the tow vehicle is much more secure than the trailer. The locks are better, the structure is stronger, and it has an alarm system. It's left unattended less than the trailer, too.
Dividing up the cash and cards prevents trip disaster if one person has a wallet or purse stolen. - davosfamExplorerWhere do you camp that you need to hide your money? Why do you carry enough cash that you need to hide it?
We usually carry less than $50 between the two of us and only lock our trailer when we leave the campground. We are not naive or trusting. We just won't camp in a place that theft is a big worry. Maybe this will be something we need to worry about if we ever full time. - RoyBExplorer III always liked the idea of a lock box mounted in the floor perhaps inside a closet door area.
Of course that is a bad place to keep your firearms however - Would take too long to get them out to use in an emergency...
You would be best to use a 751 key on your lock box then when you misplace the key your neighbor camper will most likely have one you can borrow...
We keep all of our valuables in the truck area. Our truck has the push button door access so that allows all of use to gain entrance real easy when needed...

The apocalypse seems to have already happened according to the frequent safety / security threads.
