Why would a prospective employer want to remain hidden?

There is an ad than began today on Workamper News seeking an employee with a high and diversified skill level. I wrote to Workamper News asking for more information and was told that the employer chose not to be identified. Why would a company seeking a middle to upper middle management individual make such a choice? My thoughts are that I would not spend the time to prepare a specific cover letter if I do not know to whom I am applying. Your thoughts.

I often do recruiting for firms who wish to remain anonymous initially so they do not have to go through 300+ resumes that are deadbeats. I go through the resumes to screen and provide perhaps 5 or 6 candidates to the client AFTER I have checked them out. The rest go in the can.

That is not a reason to hide the name of the potential employer. Don't prospective employees have a right to know who they might be working for?

When any business does something like that, it's because they have a bad reputation. If they fully disclosed who they were, they'd never get any applications for employment. If that's their approach, you're probably better off passing that "opportunity" by. Would you buy a new automobile having never seen it, not knowing what brand it was? Same thing with a job! Run!

I'm with DutchmenSport! Workamper News indicated they would forward the resumes...they are not doing any screening...I believe it is in my best interst to pass.

  • You won't know there motive until later. Might be an employer that rips people off. Or maybe a business has added up all their hiring costs and only goes thru a hiring agency that only forwards them job apps that are drug free, with experience and background checks already done.
Takes way to much money to hire people off the street.

  • Maybe the person currently in the position doesn't know they're about to be fired.
