When my Dad passed he was to be buried in Web city MO 3 hrs away. The funereal home asked if I wanted to transport him myself or for them to send a hearse. I was shocked at the time that it was a option. I had him sent by hearse but wish I took him in my truck, it would of been what he would of wanted.

Good for her. Rules and laws make it hard to die on your on terms anymore. An acquaintance died while working in the woods during the spring maple syruping harvest with his sons. He had always said he wanted to be buried on his farm. The sons argued with the state police for several hours before they finally got hold of someone that explained to the police that in VT the law was on their side. He did not have to go to a mortuary, they did have to have a coroner come out for the death certificate. They built the coffin from lumber that they had harvested from their land and had been drying and buried him close to where he died. And the mortuaries were cheated from their fees.

Recently moved from a state that insisted you had to be embalmed even if you were cremated. My wife and both just want to be turned to ash and scattered.

According to my dad, there is a provision in FMCA membership that would transport a member (and their rig and toad) home. Not looking forward to the prospect of confirming that.....

I didn't know the real answer for this as well.... Apparantly it is legal to do so but the body has to be prepared and released to you from the funeral home. You must have paperwork on hand showing you are authorized to move the body.

GOOGLE had many entries on this subj and they all said about the same thing...

I know this was done alot in the old days by the various familys...

Would be a tough journey for me I'm sure...

What I didn't see was what happens if someone dies why you might be on a trip. I too would probably just start heading for the house no matter where I was located... This is most likely stretching the law since I would not have a death certificate issued...

Some official has to sign the death certificate I guess..

I'm sure she was a basket case when she arrived but she did what she thought she must. What a lady!
